Is It Legal

Is it legal to pass out flyers at people's houses? I live by the Jersey shore and so many people have a/c units to keep cool. The town does not pick them up for recycling. People are bound to have an old unit in their basement or garage. Plus everybody love to party by me. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That should not be a problem, unless it is posted "No Soliciting". Where you run into problems is by putting your flyers in mailboxes completely by-passing the United States Postal Service.

You may want to check with your township for their rules, I know that any kind of solicitation where I live requires a permit. Never put anything in a mail box, that is considered a federal crime. I have put a note or two in peoples doors asking about their scrap, sometimes I get called back sometimes not. It never hurts to knock on the doors asking neither.
