I've ''searched'' to no exact answer. Is it thickness? For example, grill tops that are cast can be easily broken with a sledge. But the aluminum coming out of VCR's and hard drive casings (Bottoms) for example cannot be broken. The part from a VCR I'm talking about would be the ''Head'' I think they are called. The two round pieces that are shiny and held together with the pin.
If it bends, it's not Cast. Thickness is not relevant.

If you click on the image link in the first post its the round things sitting outside of the bowl. I cant bend them either and they dont stick with a magnet so would they be considered cast aluminum? Maybe just a different grade?
Being used in electronic equipment, I doubt they're cast. Just highly polished aluminum. easyrecycle could give you a better answer.
Cast is usually dull and grainy looking, for lack of a better work. Also very brittle or breakable.
Actually alot of electronic related "cast" looking aluminum is actually a zinc and magnesium alloy grade al. about 10 to 20% less valuable than extrusion...
"Cast" is just that.... cast. Molten aluminum that is poured into a mold. Extruded aluminum is pushed or drawn through a die to give it it's shape. Of course aluminum can be pressed from sheet or machined.
The inside of the H.D.'s look like their machined.
