I am cleaning out a garage of a guy who fixed computers for 20 yrs. He has a lot of stuff. I have couple of bags with monitor cable; bags of the computer power plug ins, printer cable and so on. Some of it is new in the bags. Also some large printer cartridges new in the box.
So do I just scrap all the wire or is there a market for them. I know every new computer comes with new wires but just hate to see stuff new in the bag go to scrap. I'll post some pics when I get the chance.
I'd check ebay first. If it's like HDMI cables and such, there's probably a market for them, especially if they are new. Other cables like USB cables and stuff, probably no market for that. In my experience at least there's not. I sell on ebay constantly. The printer cartridges you could probably sell on ebay too. I found some printer cartridges in a Staples dumpster one time that were expired but still put them on ebay and they sold to my amazement. At a pretty good price too!
I got a little up tite with my yard last week. those computer cables when you strip the out side cover and look at the bundle of wire they are at least 95% copper the insulation on them is very very thin, but my yard wioud only pay me comunication price .45 a lb.
I am now thinkin ingots.
I have only found a couple of HDMI cables. I did look up a computer router and new it it cost $500. I think i will try ebay on the better looking stuff.

Cable ends with gold plated connectors can be sold separately from the wire. There are a variety of them. Printer and serial cable ends both male and female, IDE and floppy drive cables, and USB. Cables such as from keyboards and mice, unless USB, and power cords are not gold plated. They are priced per lb, but like most scrap check around because prices vary.
If I am usually looking to scrap a lot of items I will also search online via the different product numbers and IDs just to check if they have more value actually selling them as they are.
If we have a "large" amount of that small wire I think our yard will dock us also. Smaller amounts we blend it in with the #2 in the bucket.Quote:
