Im going to be getting the thing that is attached to the top of a door with a arm I looked it up it's called a door closer anybody did one? I couldn't find a YouTube of it being broke down fully. From the video I did see I guess it's made of cast aluminum and has steel inside it. And some kinda oil?
I've installed quite a few over the years but never torn one down. My guess would be that there's a pretty strong spring built inside that's loaded with tension. The hydraulics are to slow it down so that the door doesn't slam shut. There are different adjustments to slow or speed up the close. There might be one for spring tension as well.
Don't know exactly what you might run into but be careful of any pressure loaded on the spring. Something might come flying out at you as you are doing the disassembly.
The best use of your time might be to skip the breakdown and sell it " as is " at the scrapyard but that's up to you.
