Who has experience in scrapping large motors? This one weighs in at 800kg. Should I strip it or weigh it in? Does anyone have any advice on how to strip and how long it will take? Any idea on copper yield would be helpful.

This boils down to several things..........How much time do you have on on your hands and do you have the tools and the knowledge to get the job done in a effective manner........Personally I would try to shop it around as is to the highest bidder
Usually the larger the motor, the harder it is to strip from what i learned. Also, if its burnt out its alot harder to remove the windings. The copper gets brittle and breaks when you try to pull it out or some times the copper melts into the plastic inserts and they wont even come out with a punch, it just mashes into the copper. i say sell as is, that's a lot of cast iron weight so i would say its better to get paid motor price for it for all that cast.
If you can get regular motor price for it I'd sell it as is. Usually motors that large are at least 30% cheaper than motors under 25-35kg due to the need to torch to process efficiently. You can inbox armygreywolf on this site. He regularly recovers the copper from quite large motors. Quickest way to recover the copper - which I'd estimate at 90-120kg - is with a torch. Two cuts along the outside to remove the casing and then post pics of the unhoused interior stator to get more guidance there. If you don't have a cutting torch it'll probably take a really, really long time and only be worth it as a hobby unless the copper is primarily on the exterior of the stator.

What a shame, that generator has copper field coils as well on the rotor which is a lot more copper than a motor has.Quote:
