Sand casting Molding Question

Hi Casters,

I have been casting for a longer time now, but registered to this forum only now, I have a question.
So far I have always used 3d printed objects as templates for my sand casting.
With every model I try try to see upfront, if its suitable for green sand casting, because it must be
possible to demold it without breaking the negative mold .
I am wondering if there is software which helps you to do this task.
Does there exist software which can input an 3D object and outputs two halves of this 3D
object which are split exactly at the line of maximal lateral extent.
I would then print both halves separately and i could easily mold and demold the item .

First I want to welcome you to the forum. Does your design software allow you to mirror the item you are designing? I don't have a 3D printer but I do have Carvewright carving software that does have the mirror function which allows me to create two identical halves. I hope this idea might help you.

If your pattern has insufficient or a negative draft you might consider lost foam or lost wax. If you have a 3D printer there are castable resins available.
