Selling Complete Circuit Boards

Has anyone ever tried selling complete circuit boards by part# on EBay? I’m new to this and struggling with what to do with my ewaste since no one in my area buys it. My yard will take them as shred only, and even though I’ve never tried it, it looks like shipping would eat me alive going to BoardSort. Not the least bit interested in refining myself, although I went through a short spell depopulating higher value items from boards with the intention of selling them once I’d accumulated enough. In reality though I don’t get the huge quantity of boards that most of you get.

Stack it up. Wait until you have enough to fill a pallet. You may think you'll never get that much, that is what I thought, but it stacks up fast. I have sent ~5 pallets off by now at this point I think.

I have not found it worth it to sell motherboards on ebay. CPUs/RAM/Laptops I do resell on ebay now if they are decent enough. Laptop sales has actually become the most profitable part of my scrapping venture.

Yes- as KSS said "stack it up" - e recycling is about quantity . Check the buyers forum for "better than scrap" if you have newer stuff- a few buyers there , also check Ewasted for scrap. He's a member here so I support him - way better than boardsort. Shipping ( LTL - less than truckload) for me is expensive from CT so you have to do some math to make sure you have enough in the load to cover the shipping and make it worth your effort. Try and get a mix of around 1600 lbs on a pallet and you'll do OK . Last one I sent to Ewasted was 1900lbs - I started out years ago sending in via Fedex in 65 lb boxes at about 25$ per box but when I got to the point of sending more than 3 or 4 boxes I became busy enough to move to pallet loads and never looked back. If you never get that much then concentrate on the higher value stuff like memory, MB, HD boards, finger cards etc and you'll probably be OK with FedEx. Dont pack low value into the box - it'll eat up weight and space and wont give you a good return if any.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like concentrate on high value items at this point in my game. I don’t have the space or volume for pallets, and shipping will kill me unless it’s high value packed boxes if I read everything correctly.

If you are a low volume scraper then save up the high value items until it makes sense to ship them. For me it never makes sense to rent a storage space because the value of the contents is reduced by the monthly rent.

With imagination you will be able to store a pallet of material in your home without much grief from the woman in charge at your home. If you want some ideas on how to do this let me know. This has worked for me in the past. The per pound shipping cost difference of shipping in a box or a pallet is huge.

Don't for get to ask your potential buyer about arranging shipping and estimated cost. You will want to know approximate weight and dimensions of the pallet. I've shipped pallets with an overall height of more then 6'. 73, Mike

Depending on the motherboards and quantity- I am willing to buy at a higher than scrap rate. But I agree with everyone here- freight is a huge killer.

If you have the means to test them then you can for sure sell them on ebay with no problem. Halfway decent motherboards you can sell for $25+ all day if you test them.

I would be interested in chatting about the laptops you sell. How many would you estimate you go through a month?

I hope you are having a great day and had a good weekend. I saw your response about stacking and accumulating motherboards before shipping them out. It sounded like you have quite a bit of experience with this. Once you have enough to ship, how are you getting a price from you buyer? Is it the quantity of the types of motherboards, or is it the weight of the different grades. IE: low grade, mid grade, server, telecom, backplane, finger, etc? If it is all i-series P4, are you differentiating the boards based on the chipset?

I'm wondering because I am looking to buy i-series boards based specifically on the chipset and am trying to figure out how to advertise that. Thanks for any help in advance!

Got to the buyers forum and check out what they are paying for each type board. We have/had a sticky thread with photos that helped folks determine the difference between boards. Then chose a buyer and contact him via his preferred method, some prefer phone calls or text or email. If you do it they method they prefer you will likely get a quicker response. These buyers are small businessmen much like you but many do have several employees.

Once you make contact ask your question and provide good photos so they can give you an accurate answer. I started shipping boxes via FedEx then moved to shipping pallets. I was mostly shipping to one of the buyers in Ohio and I live in coastal NC. Shipping buy pallet dropped the shipping cost by nearly 2/3's. Best of luck, Mike
