The handle extends to give me leverage to make moving it easy. I love this thing and wish I would have made it years ago.

Thanks guys I appreciate the comments. I would be glad to offer advise to anyone that wants to make one.
I have been looking into things people have made for their vises, the ones out of wood, but this definitely beats those. A good vise is not cheap, so I am searching for a deal, I'll find one eventually. I had a good one at the last place I had, but I ended up giving everything away to the person that cleaned out the 2200 square feet of mess (I had money and health issues at the time).

The most important thing is the proper height. If you stand with your arms at your side and then make a fist you want your knuckles to just touch the top of the anvil. Too low and you hit with the far side of your hammer, too high and you hit with the near side, but at the right height you hit solidly with the face of your hammer.Quote:

Love it. Got a 55# anvil myself. A rule I like to go by, until it's loaded up and heading to the yard, it is MATERIAL. It's only scrap when I got cash in hand.
