Anyone do anything with hard plastic? Or just throw it out?

While taking apart stuff for scrapping I end up with a TON of (what I am assuming) is ABS plastic. Examples include vacuum plastic casings, TV cases, electronics cases that are plastic, etc. I have just been throwing them in my trash but was wondering if anywhere would take these just to keep them out of the dump.... I have found some places that would buy them online, but they have 10,000-35,000LB minimums that I would never reach. I wouldnt even need someone to pay for it, just to take it for free and recycle it instead of send it to the landfill! If not, no big deal I can keep sending it to the dump, just wondering if there is a better, more environmentally friendly solution out there.

I can put ridged plastic in the recycling here, but with the drop in plastic prices as China no longer buying much, this may not last long.

Hmm interesting. I'll have to contact my recycling company and ask them! That would be ideal! But yea I heard some places are taking all their recycle to the dump anyways because no one will buy it so.... but hey, if they take it, at least I tried to do the right thing, even if they don't.

I tried putting my plastic in the recycle bin, They took it out and put it in with the trash. It sucks they dont take it cause i fill a whole rolling garbage can a week with just plastic left overs.

I just toss mine in the trash. They have a new solid waste plant going on-line soon. The plastics are mechanically pulled out of the waste stream & pelletized. The pellets will be used as fuel to produce electricity.

Hmm interesting. I dont know if burning plastic is better or worse than it just going into the dump lol....

It doesn't seem to be a problem. Our current municipal waste - to- electrical energy plant has been in operation for 30 years now.

The one scheduled to come on line is next gen. A bit more technologically advanced.

The environmental regs here in Maine are pretty strict. The waste to energy plants would never get state approval if they weren't burning clean.

To me: It makes more sense to extract energy at end of life than to just pitch it into a landfill somewhere.
