RJ45 connectors and Cat5 cable

Ok I have a 33 gallon trash can of cat5 cables they are mostly patch cables form 3 to 10 feet they all have the RJ45 connectors on the ends. Is it worth more to remove the ends and scrap the wire separately? and if I remove the ends is it worth more to take the gold plated connectors out of the RJ45 connector.

I am new this is my first post and really my first day on the forum so please let me know if this is posted in the wrong area. I am new to scrapping and have been learning mostly from you tube videos (moose scrapper) and just have some specific questions now.

I sell my Cat5 and Cat6 patch cords with the ends on them.

You need to call all of your local yards and see what the prices are and if they require the ends to be removed.

You also need to start reading as much as you can here at the SMF and you will soon realize that there is so much more information here than you will ever learn watching Moose and Mike the Scrapper. Nothing against either one of them but to me they are like appetizers and the SMF is like a huge banquet.

What jimicrk said. The yard I work at doesn't have different pricing for cat-5 with and without ends. A neighboring yardbdoes. Best to ask your yards. Also worth consideringbis whether any price difference is worth the time it would take to snip the ends on so many relatively short pieces.

Welcome to SMF and the place your mom would never tell you about. First I would recommend that you introduce yourself in the area by the same name. This will allow us to get to know your interests, dreams, etc. A couple of shortcuts to maximize your experience on the forum:

Technically, patch cat 5/6 and long run 5/6 are vastly different recovery rates. Patch are very fine wires that in my tests did about 28% by weight and solid strand long run cables are about double that. Throw in losses with low wire diameters in the recovery process and short run patch is more like 20-25% depending on machine, operator, and skill.

I just cut the ends off and sell the plugs as gold plated connectors. Then throw the wire in as insulated wire. My yard buys it all the same unless its very thick cable like vacuum or extension cord and the like. Prices are fair anyway, so I can't be bothered. Unless your yard has a good price for them with the plugs on vs. off, leave the plugs on. It will save you money in the amount of time spent removing plugs, which aren't gold nuggets in and of themselves.
