Electronic scrap plastic. What to do with it?

Hello everyone. I scrap tons of electronics to get the boards and metal from them. I live in an isolated community far from any port and I sell my material on ebay and have been doing well. One problem is the plastic. I can take it to a transfer station and even though they take electronics for free they classify the plastic as garbage and charge about $30 a truck load. I don't like doing this.

Any ideas on what to do with this stuff? Its plastic from printers, vcrs, cd players etc. And why is the plastic classified as trash and not e-waste? Thanks

firs thing you do is use the search for plastic scrap, ot you are going to piss a lot of people off. there are several threads about this subject. upperright hand corner type in plastic E scrap. and by the way welcome, we are not all as grumpy as me.

Still searchin for more alum wire in that bucket? haha.

they call it trash because there is little worth in it. But for the most part its ABS plastic.

The reason why they wont take it as e-waste is because hmm...you took all the good stuff? There is nothing left for them to use/make money on.

If a company called me an asked me to haul 50crt screens...I will charge them...but if they ask me to haul the same screens but they are giving me the 50 computer units as well an some other times...I will take the crt screens an may even pay for them (if they are on a pallet and wrapped up as they should be).

There are ABS plastic buyers all over the country. Do a google search, and contact them. Most want at least a gaylord box or more minimum.

I just throw mine in my yellow recycling bin and call it good. The 1 or 2 TVs or CRT monitors plus the occasional odd electronic I get from every trash night doesn't yield enough plastic to make selling it worth it.

Just in case someone from the state is lurking, I don't handle CRT's but I still managed to fill a gaylord box last month from printers and other misc. stuff ;)

It doesn't take much to add up enough to get a check.

And it really would add up faster than you think!

The problem is storage. Plastic is too bulky for it's weight and price. I barely have room for metal.

That is always a concern. Oh well, hopefully someday we all can buy enough space to really make the recycling pay off big! I have noticed that the companies that leave little to no waste make the most money.

Hi and Welcome. I found a buyer specializing in plastics in ATL. They quoted 18-22 cents/pound for ABS, 3-5 for mixed. They will take any quantity and pick up a ton or more. Letusrecycle.com

If I could have space to store a gaylord, I would. But then again, plastic buyers in Houston are far and few between.

We're on the lookout for a used small chipper so we can start filling up a gaylord. Gonna keep an eye out at the local pawnshop. We've got a cement slab, and a 8' x 10' tarp is cheap to buy. If worse comes to worse, I have a 12' x 12' canopy that I could weigh down so the storms won't blow it away,,
We're only 1/4 mile off a state highway so it would not be hard to get a semi in and out.

i am in texas i have been recycling electronics for about three years now. I have gotten better at seperating all recyling iteams from them to maximize my profits. I know i can do more with the plastics then throw them away. I have tried looking for buyers but have had no luck. Any help would be great
