231 small electric motors

Went to get something off free on cl and he had these. Sold them all to me for $30 ($.15 ea). Broke one down and it had just over a half pound of #2 copper in it. Cast alum ends. I also cut all the little wires, little more tedious but a few pounds. We got most the breakdown done today, a little bit yesterday, phew. Well besides cutting, still have to cut pry and pick tomorrow as you can see in the last pic. Sleepy time now.

Those big tan solid metal blocks came out of that x ray stuff I got recently, nice little anvils, perfect for transformers/motors :) and we punched the centers out with a 2x4. Cutting them with a diamond edge "metal cutting" blade in my grinder, works good on the copper, and before I cut them I cut the string with the grinder.

Looks like a fun project

Just got $20 for all those cast alum ends (56 pounds @ $.36), about $40 shred, and $115 from a 5 gal bucket full of #2 (46 pounds @ $2.51). I would say i've maybe done 1/4 of the copper, so yeah, math... :)


I'm going to have some more shred obviously, i'll update on the copper, and I got about 5 pounds total of "rainbow" wire from all the motors, i'm just gonna throw it with my other wire for later.


These are bringing more than I thought they would, but they are fairly time consuming, even with a grinder. We've been picking the tape off to make sure they give #2 price so that makes it take a little longer, but obviously very worth it, I would have made $45 profit on them total if I didn't break them down.


Blade is lasting like a champ.

Took another $30 of #2 today (12 pounds), didn't do much cause I had a call to do.
