Hey, look... another new guy

Hello,
I just joined and wanted to say hello. My brother scraps, i am just starting to help him find and separate metal. We found a pretty good amount of stuff out of the trash last night. Very large hot water heater, aluminium copper pipe, 2 aluminum cooking grills, some stainless, and some light steel.

We just cut up our first pickup truck. pulled cab and front end for a light load. Then removed the engine, and cut up the front half of the frame for a load of steel(not sure what to call grades just yet). still have the rear half to go. and of course we got the radiator, heater core, alt, and starter. :cool:

I am interested in learning whats worth separating and what to throw in the metal dumpster. Also, where to find the valuables, like in computers, TV's, and what not. :confused:

I have access to a pretty good amount of materials form my job. I am a mechanic at a dealer. My boss won't let me take the 2+ ton pile of brake rotors:mad:. But I get the electric motors, and i have a nice stash of aluminum engine parts. My co-workers throw copper and aluminum in the trash.

This is a pretty entertaining way to make easy money.

Oh, and I am located in MA.

An why they want to keep the brake rotors?

I think the owner wants the money:confused:. But, he will not call for pick up, or accept any offers:mad:. the pile just sits getting bigger and bigger, maybe its his " money stash" even with a multi million dollar inventory in cars.

Any chance you could park your vehicle right next to the dumpster? Ask the co-workers to discreetly drop the copper and aluminum right in the back of your truck when they go out to toss garbage. If you drive a car instead of a truck, have them drop it on the ground right next to your car, on the side or in back whichever side is not visible from the office.

When you go to leave for the day, walk around your car, check and toss scrap in on floor or trunk. Take off.

Hello there from Iowa! I'm new here too and let me just say that I wish I had found this forum a year or two ago when We first started up our company. I do need some information from the group. I know, I know, newbie and all but I need to find a place close to home to sell CRT Plastics too. I also need a place that will accept CRT's that are not broken dow yet. Who is cornering the market on this. BTW, thank you to all who posted anything on prices for computer parts such as motherboards and the like.
