I've been accumulating steel scrap for about 8 years now and decided to haul a few pickup loads in to see what sort of numbers I can get. My half ton can take a maximum of 1600lbs in the bed and I know when I hit that number by where the suspension sits.
I took 3 loads in of mixed scrap steel, my yard pays the same for a 1" steel plate as they do for a steel clothes rack. They payed $125 for each 1600lb load of steel. From what I've read on here that's pretty decent I believe?

There are to many variables to say if that is a good price. Your location (what part of the country) and your relationship with your yard would be a consideration. In the Dakota territory $ 156 a ton for prepared # 1 would be a great pay out right now.
I consider my self decent at estimating the weight of my loads within a half a ton based on the springs, tires, and rpm's needed to move down the road. I would never be able to load three identical loads. I assumed your three loads averaged 1600 pds. and you averaged $ 125 for each.
