Photocopiers, Printers etc....

Our neighbor across the street is in the photocopiers, printer etc business.
Has lots of big local accounts.
He has no use for his take backs, obsolete stuff etc.

Is there any decent money to be made with recycling those?
He would give them to us for free.

I did some sampling for better than scrap value with very poor results.
But is there any money to be made in breaking stuff down?
It wouldn't be huge volume, but steady and easy as it would take zero time acquiring it.

And I mean something in the $30+ per hour range to make it worth my while? (assuming I accumulate it and get at it, when I have a decent amount to process.)

I scrap lots of printers and copiers but only very rarely break them all the way down. Mostly I just pop off the panels on the side to get the main board (and if it's accesible quickly, the power board). Rarely takes more than 2 minutes. The rest goes in my shred pile. Larger copiers may take a litte longer but they often have several boards, most still quickly accessible. Occasionally you see a motherboard, RAM or telecom grade boards but usually they're mid-grade which has a nice return depending on your buyer.

I can't recall who it was but, last week, I found an online buyer of whole copy equipment. Something about asset reclamation and end-of-lease recovery. They buy individual units from both lessors and lessees, though, and I think they cover shipping on LTL. I will have to check my bookmarks at work. I haven't dealt with them (we only get a few floor units per year) but if I ever do, I will post a review.

So far, having just started, I take all the printers I get apart to get at the metal inside, and the (stainless steel?) rods on the inside..........I'm slowly building up my scrap and hope to have a big enough load to invest in getting my name out...............If those rods are stainless steel, could I make something out of them, like a frog gigger?

Those rods, I save them up along with any tubing, TV aerial extrusion etc etc and intend to sell them as 'Hobby machinists bar stock"

Yes the large production copiers are worth it .
I’ve been scraping them for years. The bigger the better.
Aluminum. Copper , wires, boards , motors small but they add up fast .
where are u located. The wire is of higher grade I’m in Illinois getting $150 lb.
the old xerox , HP’s where good . The best where the old Kodak machines$$$

The service I mentioned for whole photocopiers, et al, is through ARCOA, though I have not used it (not enough copiers to get them interested). I am leery about posting for their services in the forum since I am not their representative so please, if interested, PM me and I will give you specifics and a contact person.
