selling parts instead of scrapping them: which sell well?

Have you ever tried selling pieces of what you scrap for parts? Which parts tend to sell better?

I recently butchered a couple of old microwaves and surprisingly quickly sold their glass platters on eBay . Then it occurred to me that a platter is probably the single most easily sold microwave part because (i) it breaks easily and (ii) it can also be replaced quickly and easily. (Not that I am the 1st one on this forum to realize this but it was still nice to have an A-ha moment :) )

I presume that other microwave parts such as magnetrons, transformers etc can't be sold as easily. Still, do some have a better market than others? Other than eBay or craigslist, where else could I try selling them? I live in a large metro area, can I expect to find a Mom-and-Pop-type shop that fixes electric appliances and would be willing to buy used parts?

What about other appliances? Which of their parts, if any, sell better?

If I was you I would do some market research for your area, you can also list your stuff on EBay and try and sell it If it don't sell you know from your research that it either sells or it dosn't if it don't sell there is no fees and what have you lost the time to take a picture and write a Ad describing what you want to sell. but then again that is just my 2 cents

I posted on another thread where we(Phil-I) passed out a few cards at yard sales and then did some haul off's taking everything left over they did not want. In the mix of misc. stuff, we put some better of it out in our yard sale and about $65. sold...Just sold the 2nd old safety razor on Ebay for 12.95, first one for 15.95, took a little while to list and research but would have only brought a dollar or two in a yard sale...Got two more to go,If it looks like it has any value to anyone, I'll fleabay it or Craigs list it,the only good thing is you can research it on ebay to see how good(or bad) the market is for your specific item...

The metal ones . Easy 20-30 $ on Craig's list . That beats .10# .
I have been killing it on there with bikes lately . For some wired reason the cheaper kids bikes sell faster than the nice adult bikes . I find a lot of bikes in storage units .

i mainly do junk cars! i normally take off any good sheet metal parts before i take it to the scrap yard.
along with any good headlights,tail lights,air bags,computer. i put the sheet metal parts on craigslist for sale. then if they don't sell after a month goes by then i just toss them in my scrap pile. i will make money one way or the other. far as headlights,tail lights,air bags,computer,mirrors those i toss on ebay.

I had some scratched computer screens, so I took them apart and put the board sets on ebay. The power boards seem to sell ok, I just sell as complete set for the particular model. Brings almost as much profit as selling a whole monitor, and less shipping cost too!

I'll take anything that looks decent and ebay it if its small enough to reasonably ship or if its larger I'll just put it on CL for a little more than I could scrap it for. Saves me space on the next load and someone can get some use out of it
