took in some copper a while back/electric motors

the scrap guy said that the copper wire i had started to oxidize and i know that was not true or is it? it was bare bright or so i had thought it was from a/c cords and sweeper cords that i had stripped and he gave me #2 price and another time he gave me bare bright for it and some on here say its #2 if its stranded?

i was also wandering if electric motor copper the windings are they considered #1? has anyone found a way to strip these of there copper i find them hard to do and leave them?

the guy at the yard said they are not motor price becasue of it not having enough copper on it?

Stranded wire from electrical cords and motors will always go as #2. My best suggestion with regards to getting paid on motors would be to not turn them in until you have at least a bucket full. They will likely then take them all at motor pricing, which still isn't great (around twenty cents a pound maybe).

Is your first sentence a question, or a statement? I don' t understand, but copper starts to oxidize when exposed to air. It will begin to first lose it's luster, then eventually turn "brown." If exposed to the elements, it will turn green.

Bare bright is generally solid wire about the size of a pencil lead. Your yard/ others may buy various "bare" wire depending on need or lack of knowledge,??. I don't know.

Motor windings can be aluminum (scrape to expose) or no. 2 copper because they are varnished.

The best advice I can give you is know who buys what and how they want it prepared. This comes with experience. Shop around for price and ask questions when you go to sell your scrap. Learning curve required.

Agreeing with Hipogear with respect to quantities. Selling 1 electric motor, 2 lbs copper, 1 heater core, etc, you probably won't get the best service or pricing. Just an opinion, every ones needs are different.

its less than that where i go its about .10 i got paid steel price for 3 sealed units at .06 i would have cut them open but my hack saw was dull=( now i know to save them and cut them open so i can get the copper. ali wire why is it not considered ec wire?

does it have to be a certain size wire? like ali wire from motors that i took off the yard just said it was sheet why?

i asked the guy at the yard if it was ec wire and he did not anser my question he just said let me see and he cut it and looked at it and said its ali but ec is ali right? he was having a bad day but he still should have ansered it more clearly=(

the yard i went to before this one gave me ec wire for this does it have to be this size to get ec wire price?

is it because the wire has laquer on it? the wire from the wires you strip are white like this you know the stranded stuff like the copper
