metal prices

i took in my stuff today and here is what i got i went to lapaz iron and metal in plymouth indiana its the closest to me

copper #2 38lbs 1.85=70.30

copper #1 1lb 2.00=2.00

cast ali 30lbs .30=9.00

sheet ali 50lbs .38=19.00

yellow brass 5lbs 1.25=6.25

ali extrusion 4lbs .40=1.60

computer battery backup lead battery 6lbs .20=1.20

copper #2 insulated 2lbs .45=.90

sealed units 75lbs .06=4.50(never will i take them in like that again) lost 9lbs in copper ouch that is if they really have 3lbs each in them.

total 112.00most i have ever gotten

the guy said that the bare bright wire i had in a bag was not bare bright he said it had oxidized can it happen that fast how do i prevent that? he also said that the patio screens were sheet i thought it was extrusion so does that mean that storm doors are not extrusion either? he also counted my radiator tubes as #2 when the first 4 times i had went there they gave me #1 for them why is that? why would they lump in the left over radiator ali from the air conditioners and the car ali radiators and call it sheet? i thought radiators were in a different catagory? i had some ali wire that i thought was copper he said it was sheet why would it not be aluminum ec wire?

If oxidized than not bare bright.
Patio screens are sheet some storm doors as well. But window frames and sliding glass door frames are extruded.
Raid copper tubes some places say #2 as had Freon in them.
Radiators with no copper in them can go as sheet alum as they have no copper.
No idea on the alum wire maybe he just added it to the pile as you did not have that much?
Cut open a sealed unit and then do the math. As is $ vs. broken down into #2 copper, cast alum, #2 ins, sheet iron, brass figure the numbers and come up with $ amount for breaking them down. I sell mine as is and move on...

You turned in 211 pounds that's good! Average $.53 a pound is good. How did you get all that there did you get to use a truck?

uh yeah my dad took me over with the taho did take up as much room as you would think im good at breaking stuff down to smaller amounts so as it does not take up much space=)

not sure how much of the copper was from the a/c's since her grouped all the #2 together wire/tubes here is the break down on the a/c radiators 1 was a wound ali fin around a copper tube no loops i had 2 of those 1 one each side just like the normal ones. i had 1 3 row 1 4 row and 1 2 row

let me tell you that once it gets past 2 rows my trick for getting the tubes out fails since by the time the first two rows on either side are taken out the middle rows the ali is smashed and its hard to get those out. i would like to see more of the wound radiators they are easiest how many have you seen?

Does your dad scrap as well? If not what dose he think of your hobby? The copper tube with the alum fin should have gone with cu/alum raid around here...

lol he does not he has a job lol. me i prefer the tax free stuff lol. hm not if its clean i unwound the aluminum from the copper tube so i got #2. have you found a pic of the radiator with the ali wound around it i tryed looking up wound copper ac and got nothing=(
