New to the group
My sister and I bought a dumpster company in October 2015, and have been amazed at the amount of good stuff people throw away! We're in the process of applying for a scrap yard license with the state of Michigan for a 9 acre site that we purchased from a guy who's had some serious health issues. His father and grandfather ran a scrapyard there for over 80 years.
I just purchased a self-contained cardboard bailer, and I'm looking also at the possibility of bailing clothing for rags.
It will probably take me about a year to get everything set up at the site so that I can sort my waste stream out easily. We also get a lot of what is called C and D,( construction and demolition), and we have a site nearby that will take scrap wood and junk pallets for grinding. I'm not looking to make a big killing in this sorting of the waste stream, But I am serious about not sending it to a landfill when it can be used for something else.
I am looking forward to the forum for insights and general knowledge concerning this business, because I know that there's a need for it, and I always need money in my pocket!

Thanks, the picture of the orangutan is fitting because we are always surprised at what we come across!

Welcome to the forum. We have an extremely diverse membership with various areas of concentration. One quick thought is that there are markets for used pallets. 73, Mike

We get a lot of really weird sized pallets, or one use type. I try to set aside the typical GMA (grocery shipping standard) and brick pallets for later use.
