How do I separate the copper form iron from my copper jacketed bullets?

Here Is my situation. I just moved in our new house which used to be a gun range and just by looking at the ground you can literally see bullets and bullet shells. I have no problem with the shells cause I can directly sell them. But the big pain in the neck is selling the slugs cause its iron covered in copper and scrap shops are only offering about 0.4 USD per kilogram, the price of iron! Any idea how I can separate the two? Cause they are tightly fit and by mechanical means just proves to be impossible. I'm thinking of buying a crucible and melting the two and let them settle, then when they're cool I'll just get the metal ingots. Is that a good way or is there a better way? by the way this slugs are also covered in dirt and clay. If any one can help me aout that would be great, thanks!

Nope. Dead serious. Already got 50$ in 1 week of selling those copper shells and from a third world country 50$ is a lot. To be honest the bullets and shells I got are probably 20 years old and are in very poor condition. Thankfully metal is still metal and those scrap shops are willing to buy. My problem is how am I going to separate the copper from those slugs. I have a lot of slugs and I just want to get the right price out of them.

I have to ask - what country are you located in?

Philippines, the Visayas region.

I can honestly say that there probably is no means financially beneficial to seperate those two metals.

Sell them as is and be done...

thanks guys. I also found a thread where scrap buyers would most likely refuse to buy ingots. I would also be wasting time and energy making ingots, thanks for making me realize that. hehehe. oh well, continue with the digging!

Are you sure its iron and not lead? Most times the shots are lead not steel (due to the weight factor when the ammo is being used the around will drop faster) iron is all so strong than lead so lead is used (once it its something it will open up stopping the round)

If its copper and lead (as I think it is.) you can simple melt the lead away from the copper leaving the copper shell whole (you dont need alot of heat to melt lead) and sell the lead as is an then sell the copper. Now some ammo rounds will have a steel core inside of them. Just snip that off an it should be a clean copper core.
