window ac

ok if the ac has 3 rows when you cut the ends off does that mean its going to be 100 some pounds in total? or does the weight be determinded by the btu's? so does that mean if the condensers have 1 row each that the whole thing is going to weigh 40lbs? would someone be able to carry a 3 row window ac? and if you have a radiator that is 30lbs if its 1.00 a pound will it be more if left whole or when you take it appart will you get less money? and is the wight really 50-50 so you would have 15lbs copper and 15lbs ali sheet is this true? cause i figured it out you end up losing some money breaking it down why is this? i thought seperating it got you more cash?

Always worth more striped. But factor your time ect. And then theirs the fact they haven't been discharged. I took a few in couple weeks ago and just got copper content price. ....I cut the cord that's about it with these prices

There is no way of knowing the weight of anything without actually weighing it on a scale. You can pick it up and have a fair guess. 100 lbs is heavy. Pick it up, does it weight 100 lbs?

It does pay more to separate, but it is a PITA. Try separating these things and you'll see.

I'm still looking for an easy(er) way the the the pipes out of the alum.

oh i know i have done this before many times=) if its a one row you can just cut with a knife down the row line and then crumple the ali down but i imagine this would not work for a two or three row since there is tubes in the center also its slow i know. i haven't tried using plyers on the tubes to see if that is easier i figure you can just pull some of the ali sheets off and then just pull the tubes out using either your feet for leverage or a vice. if i get a ac i'll let you know how this went=)

I just sell it like it is , I have in the past cut the cooper ends off but the rest is not worth my time

Yeah, I just save it up and sell the Copper/Ali radiators like that.

I used to cut the tubes out, but it costs a lot of time and some grinder discs, the other option is to use a bandsaw, either beside the tubes, or right thru them, but then you loose Copper and a bit of Ali.

I just use the 9inch angle grinder to cut the loops off each end, normally on the outside of the Steel strip if there is one, then peel the steel strip off with pliers. Its a good quick clean way to do it and maximise the return while putting less time into it.

I did find that if the Ali fins are corroded a bit, when you cut the rad apart, the corrosion falls off, loosing weight and making a real mess, and that Ali metal looks real bad, takes up lots of space.

Together they are cleanish, stack easy and have their own price. I have noticed over the years that the prices for 'Plastic coated Copper wire' and 'Ali/Copper radiators' have risen above their original prices.
I expect this is because there's buyers just for this material and they are maximising their returns too, and can pay more for their specific materials.

Ie, the plastic coating on the wire now gets sold as 'Filling' for cheap leather belts, in China of course. But if they profit off that only, they can pay near return price for the actual Copper.
