LCD Boards
Stripped out an lcd tv the other day and noticed on the long board attached to the screen is labeled in gold plate "Sn-Ag-Cu". Is this something new? Old? Manufacture specific? Required by law? I like it, takes all the guesswork out of weather or not a board has any gold on/in it.

I do not know for sure, but I believe this is likely denoting the type of solder paste to use to attach the components to the board.

It identifies it as lead free so I guess that helps on disposal and dealing with feds during the manufacturing/import process. Mike

I agree with AuburnEwaste, it has to be referring to the solder composition used in the manufacturing of the circuit board for that LCD TV.
Traditional Sn-Pb solder compositions are restricted or eliminated for environmental concerns. Sn-Ag-Cu solder compositions have been proven to be the best replacement for "lead free" solder needs, as far as reliability. The Ag content varies from 3.0 to 4.0%, Cu from 0.5% to 0.7% with Sn content 95%+.
