My company upgraded the phone system a bunch years back. I was cleaning out the switch room closet and found the old tech. All AT&T stuff. Voice mail and stuff. I don't know much about telcom and i have found only some info online so far. I wanted to also start a thread to post some of my different finds. Enjoy

I scraped a bunch of cable yesterday. Ripped up 4 huge printers and have a stack of new hard drives to work on.

I wanted to post a pic of this draft pad thing that i have no idea is for. I need to do some research on it to see if its worth selling as is to a vintage CAD programmer or just go ahead and scrap it. I don't have a setup to test it sadly.

So this is why i started and still collect scrap. So early this week i was cruising CL FREE section and saw an ad "Free Stuff. Come help yourself." On my lunch hour i figured i run there (only 5 mins away) and grab a monitor and printer that i saw in the pic. Turns out they are moving to a different state and everything must go. Second biggest haul ive done. Best cold call EVER. Bottom of the bin was some gems. Pics baby

The Infocus projector has 4 bran-new bulbs and works perfectly. I haven't tested the Sharp yet.

Great stuff. Don't forget to research for possible resale of the boards or complete units. Some of the old telecom continues to have value. I have even sold a few of the old hard drives similar to the one in your photo. 73, Mike

I scraped a broken digital camera today during lunch at my 9-5 job. A Canon PowerShot A560 It was fun, until I started playing around the flash and capacitor. OK, so I haven't shocked myself in a long time, but this little cap almost put me on my backside. BE CAREFULL WITH THESE !! in one hand, out the other with enough to still light the flash. OUCH

Lesson: Don't test something then start poking around in it without discharging any Caps !!!

Good lesson for sure!! I'd like to get a pile like your but then I'd probably have to get a storage unit again because the wifey says I can't process the stuff I have. Sigh...

Today i stopped by a house downtown going through a renovation. They had a nice desk, a dresser, a few broken chairs, kitchen stove and a frig. I decided to only take the stove to toss in my growing scrap pile at home. When i got back to work, a co-worker offered to buy it only if i dropped it off at his house. An extra $20 in my pocket and he ended up only living 3 blocks away from where i picked it up !! Then to top it all off, on the way home from his house, i saw a trashed old electric piano organ thing on the curb. Tons of wire, 4 or 5 old style boards, pile of old moldy wood. After i gutted everything I got quite the surprise :

Its a 'delay bevice'. Basicly there's a speaker on one end of the spring and a microphone on the other.
Sound comes out of the speaker, travels thru the spring and goes into the microphone.
The time it takes to travel the spring is the 'delay period'.

They used to be very sought after by guitarists looking for a delay setup for their amp/speakers.

I cannot find a image of a SMD device, they are easy to find, the stainless steel rectanglar box on circuit boards.
Grind the top edges to remove the cap and inside is a beautiful crystal etched with lines on it.

Not to toot my own horn but today was the day I gave back to the Forum. Ever since I found SMF, I have been learning and getting more and more excited about e-scrap. I have used different buyers and used better methods in processing my scrap. All learned here. Thank you past, current, and future members for this forum. A life time membership is only pennies to the wealth of knowledge on this site. Totally not sucking up... just how one man feels in a crazy world.

Thanks for sharing your recent pick up. One thing if you end up scraping the board with the laptop hard drive(5th photo) check to see if any have sold on ebay. I have sold a couple of them(similar). Not lots of money but if its good and passes all tests then someone may very well want it to get their system back up and running.

I feel that along with telecom there are early cad run industrial machines that use these old hard drives are still running. I have sold several old hard drives to companies that recover data. These companies get paid well and if you have what they need to accomplish the job they will pay the price. 73, Mike

This week was fun. Today I picked up a small apartment sized portable dishwasher, two road-side printers, an old SS cappuccino machine, a box of random pots and pans, and some silver plated trinkets and a silver on copper tray. Two days ago i picked up a washer and dryer that were not working. The dryer had over $3 in change rattling around inside.

I picked up a real gem off CL. A 1950's Dumont Cathode-Ray Oscillograph. The guy claims that it works but im not familiar (or comfortable) with tube tech to play around with it. When i get this type of stuff, I tend to hang on to it and learn all I can. I will probably end up taking it to the swap meet and unload it on a ham radio guy. There are alot of then still in this area. Ive done well selling old tube radios and amps.

I just received my first business cards for my e-scrap. Been handing them out as much as I can.

Printers are sort of a drag...

With the Tin shred price spiking, I took a few hours this morning and put together a nice load. First 3 digit payday in a LONG time. 1500 lbs. Feels good to get a bit of the pile cleaned up and some points from the wife.
During payout, the guy was very direct about letting me know the prices increased. He said it like five time. The yards up here want metal, BAD.

More they have better price they get. We've been at 145 a ton for a couple weeks. I used to say 180 was my bottom line. Been eating those words all since last summer

I haven't added too much to my scrap pile lately. Today I brought home the largest UPS iv ever gotten. We needed to use the fork truck to load it the truck. The IBM typewriter still works and has an extra ribbon.

Lately me and the wife have been hitting up the auction houses locally and may toss our hand into having a booth in some flea markets soon. First one is this weekend if the weather holds off. Cheers and happy scrappin
