What's the weirdest offer you have received?

I've been listing some items I have acquired that still worked so I didn't scrap them (the garage is overfull and I need the space). One of the things I listed on kijiji was a 10" mitre saw, still works great, older so it's well-built, asking $50. I got a reply yesterday asking me if I would take "over $100 in fireworks" in trade? Whuh? That's not even out of left field, that's from outerspace! I also have an old Underwood typewriter, asking $50 (sells for more than $100 on ebay all day long) and some moron asked me "how about $25?". The keys are worth more than that!

So, anyone else got any stories of whackadoos trying to barter?

Happens all the time...I got a wedding dress (this is from a storage locker I bought at auction)....it was in perfect condition, but noone would buy it...even at like $100. Girl asked me if I would trade it for a computer she had that worked. I got a P4 dual core I think it was, 17" monitor AND an inkjet printer included...all working. Turned that over in short order after the trade. :)

I ALWAYS have people trying to lowball me...I just tell them I know what it is worth and I am pricing fairly. This happens alot with cell phones...they think I don't know....I worked in cellular for 7-8 years. When I tell them that, they shut right up. LOL

I once purchased an infallible building large enough to cover several tennis courts at an auction for $350.00 a guy that missed that auction item contacted the auctioneer for my contact information then called me and made an offer of $3500.00. The guy lived several hours drive from me so we had a contract in principal over the phone.

Shortly after another guy working out of my shop offered me 10 grand, told him if the first deal fell through we had ideal, unfortunately the first guy showed up with cash a few hours later.

I never inflated the building but it must have been huge as it has two very large fans about five feet in diameter each powered with a diesel engine, that deal went down 20 years ago and the building sits in a field in Chilliwhack to this day. Probably rotten by now.

Out of a litter of 12 yellow labs, I was offered a handicapped sons appreciation for the last one. Never met the son or saw the mother again. I might have been taken but the chance she was honest is worth it. Sometimes believing is more important than the money. Based on another thread I read, if I gave away 10 bicycles and only one went to one in need, it would be worth it. I believe in the boom a rang affect, what goes around, comes around.

Had a vintage wooden Dr. Pepper crate on craigslist forever for $30, with nothing but lowball offers. Guy offered a brand new 20" led monitor in trade but I had to go pick it up about 15 mins away. Picked it up in my car, spent maybe $4 in gas at the time. Sold the monitor for $50 the next day and moved on! Oh and originally got the Dr. Pepper crate for free :D

-Was offered a coin collection for a laptop. Did not know much about the coins so I passed on it.

-Got a free laptop fixed it and was offered a nice Epiphone electric guitar in trade. Played the guitar for a while and then put it up for sale, was offered a nice acoustic electric proffesional cajon (it's a hand drum of sorts) that was worth about $300. I'm a drummer, so I took that trade. For less than a gallon of gas and 2 hours work on a laptop, I was able to work my way to something I had wanted for a long time. Winning!

Yes,my wife came from the village of Rosedale a bit east of Chliiwack, was from living here that I first became interested in prospecting but had a family to raise and could not dedicate to this hobby full time. You see that beautiful Fraser River on the map, the largest gold nugget was found on a bar while a couple of miners were building a camp-fire.

By 1858, one of the richest placer deposits in the provinces history was found at Hills Bar, just south of Yale. The British Columbia gold rush had begun.Yale became a metropolis in 1858 and the foundation of Port Douglas itself was laid the following year.

Port Douglas is at the head of Harrison Lake, surprisingly I've never made there even though I've seen some really long quartz crystals found by others who had made the trip. Harrison lake is 80 miles long most of my adventures have been on the west side of the lake. Access to Port Douglas is from the east side of the lake and from what I've heard from others your better travelling in a caravan.

One of tha largest scrap deals I've ever done 1,000 tons was from the west side of Harrison Lake about 30 miles from civilization an oversight was thinking that the scrap could be barged out, the bridge located at Harrison Mills on the map is to narrow for a barge to pass through so we ended up trucking everything out.

One good thing did happen in my favour though the Canadian dollar was weak against the USD and my scrap was heading to Tacoma paid out in USD, Every little bit helps.

I get calls from time to time from Asians that don't understand English well and how its written in my ads on clist so they think I am offering free electronic recycling as in giving away free electronics or computers and as what I have that's free, its a sometimes a hoot when I can sell them things I might not normally for more than scrap

Box of used sex toys, everything from whips to um hmm vibrating sticks....lol. Trying to put it nice. One of thiose days put back box and grab the gloves moment. Seriously sold that **** for a grand on ebay as used untested and need to be satized. Even had the fuzzy pink handcuffs and the special swing for that perfect position. Whips...on and on. I still laught about it to this day.

speaking of Chilliwack, there was a band in the 80's named after that town...

as far as weird offers, I haven't gotten too many just usual low ballers, however, I hear that out west where pot is legal, it is becoming the currency of choice on CL...

My only Ebay sale of 2013: A dentist chair and appliance setup (spit sink...compressor, tool holder, the bright light...all on one pedestal... from 1939. I don't remember who made it, but the whole thing was mint, I even had a box of empty dropper bottles and tins for all kinds of drugs. It looked like a torture station actually.

-traded a headlight assembly to a fiero for a ESP James hetfield LTD snake bite....it hangs on my wall...

-bought a 1978 Kawasaki KZ650b for 50 bucks, the cigarettes in my pocket and a ride back to town...on the bike I just bought. That has to be the oddest offer I ever received... (back in 2000)
