Doing little things to make extra money while metal prices are low

With prices so low I have really slowed down on my scrapping.
I have shifted to hitting up garage sales and reselling.
In addition in my downtime I have started trying to make a little extra online.
I have started at this site called inboxdollars , they pay you for doing searches, watching videos, and reading email

I have been using them for about a year, typically make about 100.00 a year in my downtime.
I also started using ebates, its cashback shopping. They have a huge list of places to do cash back shopping

I do a lot of shopping at Home depot, Walmart, and Amazon so its been a nice way to get cash back on things I am already buying

well this is a pretty good one...my wife did it and we ended up with about $180-200 in the account (bought us a week to a week and 1/2 of groceries...FREE). Most people shop at Walmart for at least some stuff...sign up, just input your receipt number and if the price is lower in a store in your area they give you the difference (match the price)....so takes like 1 min to do it per week (including time to login in)...50 weeks of this netted almost $200. Where else are you making $180-200/hr? And it is EASY CHEESY, basically little to no effort if you buy there anyways.

i dont know if its possible in the US/Canada, where most of u guys are
but here in SA, many guys with trucks also earn extra money by approaching furniture & appliance stores who need delivery vehicles

the bigger chain stores here also use private transport and its quite lucrative when u are able to be contracted to them
these stores either use private delivery for transporting stuff from their warehouses to their stores or from the stores to the customers homes.
they do have their own vehicles but when theyre busy, they use private transporters as well.

most guys have one assistant, or two- depending on the size of their vehicles.
they get paid for every customers stuff they deliver or have a fixed rate for every load from the warehouse to the retail store

of course, your vehicle has to be reliable, presentable & in a roadworthy condition.

i know guys who make friends with the people at the stores or warehouses and they have their own agreement like this:
i can do whatever other work i have until theres enough deliveries accumulated for a full load

then i come there, load up & once ive delivered the stuff, im done for the day.

obviously, if they are very busy, u have to hang around- but u get paid so its not like youre wasting time.

I donate plasma. I average $200 to $300 a month.

I have signed up with some companies that do consumer surveys and some software companies that have you test drive software. There are some retired folks who do this almost fulltime and make a couple bucks.
You can find them on Craigs list under Etc. be careful that they are reputable firms before you input any information.

I've been trying to sell firewood. I already use it myself, so cutting/splitting some extra to sell isn't much more work. Haven't sold much this year with the unusually warm weather here (not complianing ;) )

Idaho Scrapper- As an old hospital pharm tech, I thank you for your time putting in to give plasma. I used carry around a lot of vials of albumin which is made from human plasma. Trauma cases, head bleeds, and other people crashing tend to use a lot of albumin. If it wasn't for people willing to sit a few hours and get a little coin for plasma, hospitals wouldn't have the albumin. I thought about doing plasma a few times but chickened out because I'd probably come down with a massive caffeine headache and the idea of a needle in the arm for several hours bugged me (I give whole blood but that's pretty quick). So plasma donators rock even if they're getting some coin to do it!

Fixing flat screen TV's and such.

If the screen is intact, its a good TV and only needs some time invested in it, and some capacitors....
A lot of capacitors have a bad fluid in them that makes the little can they are in expand and leak liquid.
Then they stop working, and so does the Flat screen or laptop or such.

Now most of the time its a straight swap of the capacitors, maybe the board, which can be gained from a flat screen with a broken screen of the same model.
Other times its a bit more work, and sometimes virtually no work at all because the problem was physical, not electrical.
A dull line across the screen may be just a broken florescent tube.. Get one of the same model with a broken screen..... Free. Sell Flat screen for $$.
There's a website called 'badcaps.com'.
Absolutely tons of info and its just a quick search of the model number and they can tell you what the problem is 95% of the time, and how to recognise it and how to fix it, and future problems, and a source of Good Capactors to replace the bad ones.

So far I have fixed 5 flat screens, and that's without even touching the capacitors....
Ones got a bad screen connection, 'badcaps.com' told me that, its a problem specific to this model.
You fix it with a strip of door seal foam! = Free 55inch Flatscreen!!
Two had a messed up colour settings.. Figured out the menu and turned the individual colour back on. It works!
Two actually had nothing wrong with them anyway.. I just plugged it in and it went. No work involved at all....

I have another with a bad broken off/on switch to fix. Yeah that's all......

And another, combination of wrong colour setting caused by last owner trying to find answer to why the screens colours gone bad, the answer was a bad screen connection. Fix connection, then reset colour.

One more, broken mylar strip to the menu switches. The only thing stopping me from fixing it is that there's too many working Flatscreen TV's in the way...

To me, each working Flat screen is worth NZ$100.
X5 = NZ$500.
Basicly, if the screens intact, its a Hundred dollar note.

Oh, and I, as a sober driver in the right place at the right time. Got paid $110 for taking some very nice, very drunk, two sets of couples safely home at 2-3am.
One was a little way out of town, would normally cost $70-$80. Done for $50
The second I took thru McDonalds drive thru, took ages but that's not something you can do in a taxi. =$60 for two drop offs in different places.
Of course YMMV. Be carefull, and clean. Its safe to do here. Don't take 'advantage' of drunks.
And don't endanger yourself either.
And don't take jobs from Taxis.
(why do taxi phone numbers always have sevens in them? 555-777777?)

If you want to buzz over here to Nebraska, I've got a whole windbreak full of dead cottonwood, elm and cedar trees that would make good firewood. We went through the flood on the Missouri River in 2011 and they all sat in water for 4 months......now DEAD !! Been piling them up with the tractor to make a big bondfire some snowy day.

I haven't found it to be too terrible. I am usually done within 45 minutes. What I am not a fan of is when the vein rolls and they try to chase it with the needle instead of removing and starting over, or trying other arm. Had that happen a few times. Eat a high protein meal a few hours before and stay hydrated and you should be fine.

I used to donate Plasma when I was in Arizona. Helped stretch the funds! An Dakota I know what you mean about the needle. I was hesitant at first myself do my very real hatred of needles. The folks there tho, did a fine job. Never felt it but one time. Things may have changed of be different in other places, but when I was in Tucson, you were only hooked up for about an hour to 2. Now the waiting could be a *****, but hey..they had tv an magazines. lol. Only time it took longer then 2 ana half hours was my first time, an that's cause you fill out paperwork, answer questions, etc.

My only pet peeve was..I went 3 times a week if I recall(there is a limit, or was) an the same girl always checked me in but..even tho they saw me on Monday, on Wednesday they'd be asking if I left the country. I understand the whys of them asking..just struck me as funny an annoying. lol.

Good extra income tho! Bring a book. Or something to entertain yourself.

Ive done inboxdollars afew time its an easy way to get a few bucks. If you have the time to do that kind of stuff you can also check out clickworker and amazon mturk. Clickworker pays direct to your paypal (last time I used it) which is nice, try to get into their UHRS program thats where you can make the most.

There is an app called Pickup where you sign up to use your truck to pickup things people buy and you deliver them. www.pickupnow.com..I would love to do this but my Ford Ranger is too small.They want FULL size pickups.
