My name is matthew i am 27 and have been scrapping for about ten years now. used to deal with steel but not even worth my time anymore. Strictly cars. People are complaining about the prices and rightfully so. But folks im here to tell you if you know how to manage your money and know how to wheel and deal you can still make decent profits even with the prices the way they are. Hope to talk to folks soon. I love getting new advice and maybe even trying to be helpful where i can. Merry Christmas everyone.

How much more are you getting for cars than steel, or are you parting them out?

Hey there hobo. Some places around here have gone down to $2 or $3 dollars a hundred pounds for cars. Some yards are paying $6.50 for complete cars. and then there is this one local yard that is paying by the car, not by the pound anymore. its all a set price wrote out on a sheet. so if i bring a ford explorer in the would only bring $150 on the scales they are paying us $220 for it, $20 more if it has the motor trans all that good stuff and so on from there. they also pay by the year so anything 2003 and up is worth much more. We have some yards paying $4.70 for cars complete or incomplete but they are an hour away. Shredder steel is only around $2 dollars a hundred right now.

pick and pulls usually pay better on cas than regular scrap yards.
if you know what you are doing, parting out is the way to make money on low volumes

Make a little less, an don't have to deal with the everyday idiot. I find it quite worth it myself.
Oh an welcome to the forum. I know nothing about scrapping cars, but I can teach you the ways of the Cooler young Jedi.
