I was contacted by somebody about selling me a lot of laptop computers. I have dealt with this person before. The first time I bought a lot of desktop computers. I know how to price a desktop, but I'm unsure what price to quote for laptops. My guess is they will be a mix of late 90's through mid 2000's. I'm thinking of $2 per laptop. Not sure if I should go lower. I'll probably meet her in a parking lot and a small scale might not be a good option, it will be cold and dark. Suggestions welcome

Yes, it's a question that's been asked before. I can foresee eventually, especially with falling prices and tighter margins, we could end up like GRF and start berating folks who don't read through the old threads or use the search function. In fact, I can remember a few years or so ago we actually did get like that for a while on this forum.
Unfortunately, the question is too open ended. The answer depends on what you plan to do with them after you purchase them. It also depends on your level of expertise in different areas related to laptops. As for me, before I decide to start purchasing something I never purchased before, I do my research first. I look up videos and tutorials to try to see what's inside. I line up a downstream vendor. I use the advance search feature to see what similar threads have been posted. It can sometimes take me a week to do all that. It's just that I like to make my own decisions. I'm not afraid to make mistakes. if I wind up overpaying, then I can make adjustments.
The value will also depend a lot based on completion.
How much are you going to sell them for? Pay less than that.

well if you are a middleman...which pretty much all of us are in one way or another, the above advice is simple and best. Look at whatever you will make from them, factor in expenses (time etc) AND THEN carve out whatever % profit you want (everyones idea of a good living is different), then you have what you CAN offer...not what you should offer. And nothing says you HAVE to start at that number...that is the HIGHEST you can offer. ;)
That is how all pricing models work. Now sometimes you have a negative number, this means the item is not viable to mess with based on your assumptions. Could you take it for free and make less profit, sure, but you need to decide if you are will to trade your time for that amount of $$. Many times, I have had to say no because of that. I have finite time and need to make $X for the profits I want to achieve.

It was a real question. The escrap market changes so a thread from 2 years ago may not be relevant, price wise, and margins are tighter. I sell things, so buying is not my forte.
Look at what our buyers are paying for complete and incomplete laptops, figure in your costs and profit and price accordingly. It is probably best to assume all scrap and any more than scrap value components or complete units are gravy
As I said above, we don't know completion. That makes a huge difference- a missing motherboard or screen devalues a laptop by a large factor.
That said, I wouldn't pay much. An older laptop weighs 6-7 pounds. Shipping them gets expensive quickly, and the time to break one down is enormous.
