I've been using the Vise Grip brand cutters for awhile and they've held up well. The Vise Grip brand isn't quite what it was 20 years ago but it's still a reasonably good tool at a moderate price.
Most would balk about the upfront cost of Snap-On tools, but I'm using a pair of the heavy duty diagonal cutters they make . I've had them for years and have yet to have them replace them.
I have several pairs of these that I've used for years. The compound feature (self-opening) is great if you're cutting a lot of wires.

That right there is a great set of pliers. I have the Kobalt brand version (I looked and they don't seem to have them anymore) and I was glad to see that I can get another compound cutter.Quote:

Depending on the gauge of the wire will depend on wither i use my tin ships or electricians cutters. Both are effective enough. I've only came across a braid of wire once that required a cut-off wheel.
