How to identify an intercooler? Car guys please help...

I picked up an aftermarket intercooler tonight from a machine shop, along with some other strange goodies. It was after hours so I could not get any info on the items. I am NOT a car scrapper and know just enough about vehicles to get myself in trouble "fixing" them.

Can any of you car guys help me identify this intercooler? (I think it's an intercooler?!) I believe it has more than scrap value, but I don't know how to list it on Craigslist or what it could be worth. Which dimensions are important to someone looking to buy one?

Any info appreciated, this is definitely a new one for me.

Definitely an intercooler. If you can find any kind of identifying marks and post a picture of it, that would be great. Anything including a part number/ brand name. Double/triple check. You rarely see an after market part without a brand name.

I looked it over, but am running on 2 hours of sleep last night because the little one is teething. I will scour it again in the morning with some better lighting!

If you cant find much info on it I'd list it on craigslist for $30 as is. If you can, the price could be ten times that depending on the brand name.

Measurements are the same, but I just can't find a number or name anywhere. I'll take a look again tomorrow and either way I'll throw it on Craigslist for the week and see if there's any bites. Thanks SteelMill

I found one that was that size and asked the nextdoor neigbours kids about it.
They said it was too small for their useage. They have hotted up Honda civics etc. They showed me theirs (sic) about 3 times bigger or more.

They did say it was probably factory made for a diesol engine. So I sold it for scrap.
If you have the time you would sell it on Craigslist etc for more than it Ali/weight value. Since its light its scrap value is, well not much. But its sell value will be many times more than scrap so its worth the chance.

I have never sold on 'TradeMe' our NZ version of ebay.
But this is the sort of stuff I would sell. I have picked up lots of 24-12 volt DC convertors and turbo timers from scrap vehicles.
Its a "Whats $4 now compaired to $30 later" sort of situation.

I intend to put the lowest quality item up last, at a $1 reserve, to attract buyers for the better quality stuff when it comes to the DC convertors.

In my eyes if the mechanic was throwing it out, odds are it had a leak.
Id scrap it and move on.

Resource, I'd hate to throw it out because of the probability that it works. Often times mechanics would throw something like this out because they're upgrading the intercooler. I'd list it as a universal intercooler with the measurements and hope for a bite. If it doesnt sell after either A) the auction ends, or B) a month on craigslist, scrap it ooooooorrr (Disclaimer: This is my mentality here, wife says I'm an organized, methodical hoarder) you could keep it for possible use in future projects.

Everything else I get from this shop works, they just don't want to mess with it and don't mind if I take it. I've gotten everything from pressure washers to batter chargers to winches and come-alongs. This was just the first intercooler I've come across and I still can't find any identifying marks on it. Just going to throw it on craigslist and see what happens. Thanks for all the input.

DO NOT THROW THAT IN FOR SCRAP. That is defidently an intercooler, and you can get a lot of money for them reselling them. It will defidently sell fast on Craigslist especially to someone who is tuning their car.

To Matt, what an intercooler is is a type of radiator, but instead of coolant running through it, hot air goes through it. When you put a turbo on your car, it increases the cumbustion and exhaust temperatures of the engine. This can cause premature wear on components inside the engine. The intercooler is used to cool the air before it goes into the engine after it goes through the turbo. It's a vital component to keep the engine from wearing out prematurely and failing.

Just to follow up, I sold this for $30. Never did find a maker's mark anywhere. Thanks!
