What Would You Do?
I have a friend who has a refrigerator that stopped working... Two or more years ago.... That was never emptied of the food it contained... Left on the back porch... In Florida.
He wants me to scrap it. "Just tape the door shut," says he.
I want nothing to do with it because it will "pop" in the yard when the pinchers nab it (or possibly before).
Would you take it? What would you do?

Nothing worse than that smell , especially in the summer.. Not sure how bad this one is but we had one come in once and it smelled like death. Horrible... We made them load it back up and take it back.. The ground where it hit and the grapple smelled for the rest of the day as well.
In most cases if someone realizes its full of rotting food and they have any sense they wouldn't buy it.
I mean it was horrible , I bet anybody within a block radius could smell that crap.
Like I said not sure how bad this one is you're talking about but me personally I wouldn't take it.

File this under "what would you do for scrap"? Not much of a friend in my opinion that wants to dump their toxic problem off on you. I would tell him you would be happy to take it once its cleaned out, or pay you $100 to do it for him. There is a lot I would do for $100 :)

Tell him to clean it out.
Caveat: I don't handle items with refrigerants anyway, so I guess my answer is a bit biased because of that.

you need a pet opossum they are the only animal that will start at the arse and work there way backwards. LOL I have to agreee some friend sheesh

I would not do it for $100. I suggest you put a price on taking it where you will not regret it. I can't expect that he would clean it good enough to satisfy me. Mike

I am glad to see I am not alone. There is no way I would take that fridge anywhere other than to the dump to knock it off the trailer and leave. Even then I would tape that beast shut so that the only hope of getting it opened would be the huge paddle bladed wheeled bulldozer thing driving over it... That would be $100 for that.
If he wants it gone, I am afraid he will have to do it himself. What kind of idiot has a fridge that fails and never empties it?

My .02: Some things are NOT worth it. I do contracting work in a low rent apartment community.. just a month+ without being plugged in and full of food.. would gag a maggot. I'd say let some other person take that load.. I'd let that one go.. but that is just me!

Sadly, our country is filled with people like that. Seems the only way to get rid of them is to elect them to a post in Washington...

I have dealt with them before. I get cordless out and self tapping screws. use extra sheet metal if in doubt. either that or weld it shut.
here the doors come off or must be sealed because of kids if landfilled.
I charge 50 each on them and pay landfill charges after removing goodies and having coolant removed. you can get 90% of goodies and discharge coolant properly from outside.
I wont ruin my relationship with yard over 5-10 dollars. piss off yard man and you get treated like crap and they crawl over every piece you bring in after

I wouldn't touch it with a 10ft copper pipe. I don't risk my health to deal with peoples mess, even a friend.
