Couldnt believe it when they said they wouldnt take a stand up printer. Thing weighs at least 300-400 pounds. He claimed it was plastic and I had a nice argument over that. I said to take your magnet it will lift right off the trailer plus thats why the call it mixed sheet as there is some plastic. What do your guys yards say?
I pull excess plastic and toner and off to shred it goes
I have yards that take them...Then I have yards that don't. It really depends. Shop around.
What do we do with witches?
We burn them.
And what else do we burn?
Wood. Yes, wood.
And what does wood do?
It floats.
And what else floats?
A duck.
So.... Logically... If... the printer weighs less than a duck...
Then it must be made of wood...
Then it must be a witch....
And what do we do with witches?...
BURN IT!!!
I have scrapped many as is.
i would think that pulling off most of the exterior plastic parts-the bigger ones
and removing the toner would then make it acceptable to the yard
i always do that.
without doing this, i was warned that they wont take it again if i bring it "whole"
Sold two a couple of weeks ago, didn't take anything out or off, just went as shred no questions asked.
My yard lets me bring them as is. My shred loads are usually around 1000 pounds and I might have 1 to 5 printers per load.
Some of the larger "Plotters" are actually made in a wood box. I break those down. The larger plastic ones, I can typically throw in shred no problems.
My yard does not want them unless the plastic is missing , I also remove ink and boards . Last time I was there someone threw a TV in the shred pile early in the day , despite the many signs they have .Most yards will not accept electronics
I've broken down a couple of them, but I think I may break them down a little more than most. I remove all plastic, wiring harnesses and boards and then separate out the aluminum (large pieces) from the steel. There are a few brass components and some motors that I pull out as well.
