A big hello to all ... New to scrapping... Have an opportunity to scrap furnace (boiler), boiler used in 25 rm motel, any spec location for model info?
There have been several posts in the past on scrapping a boiler. If it is old enough, it will take the "brute force, main strength method". Try searching in the archives for boiler removal, etc and you may just find some tips to help. Do not remove the boiler for free. Charge for the removal. Any scrap value will just be extra.
Ditto what numbers said.
And welcome.
The boiler model # & specs should be right on the front up near the top.
If the jacket has been removed .... look for the boiler plate.
Don't forget: If it's an oldie you may be dealing with asbestos insulation. It's likely that you'll find it on the target wall of the firebox as well.
Many don't realize that asbestos and other materials that are a hazard are many times not realized.Quote:

I posted this as I was reminded of a story I was told years back by a man I knew at the flea market.
He told me about a man that had thought he made a deal when he was paid to haul away many 55 gallon drums with a cement like looking powder in them.
He hauled them home and figured that he could use the grey powdered material for his driveway. So he spread it out on his driveway.
Years later he and his family started to become sick and found out that they had gotten cancers and such from the mystery powder that had been in those drums.
Sometimes when a DEAL seems to good to be TRUE.
There might be a hazardous downside and/or death.
