Was just wondering if these were considered IC chips or not. Googled IC chips and this was one of the pics. I've been saving them forever not knowing what they were. I've smashed a few and put the insides in with copper breakage but other than those I've saved them for a few years nownow

IC is short for integrated circuit, which they are. Separate the plastic ones and the ones with the plated copper. The ones with the metal showing are worth more, but they are both worth saving up and sending to your ewaste buyer.
That is either a transistor or a power regulator, ex. takes 12 volt down to say 5 volt. IC's are usually flat packs and have 4 legs or more.Quote:

With the transistors in the photo if you scrap the white/silver colored plating off the metal on the back you should see its copper. Mike

Been reading a little about power transistors. This is a power board that I believe came out of a battery backup I scrapped. It had 4 solid aluminum heat sinks and there were two power transistors bolted to each heat sink. These power boards usually have either 1 large heat sink or 3 or 4 smaller ones plus several transformers and some large capacitors. Without removing anything I get 20 cents a pound for these heavy boards but if I remove the heat sinks, transformers and large capacitors I get $1.20 a pound. I don't remove any transistors, IC chips or flatpacks because it can devalue the boards.
Cool. Guess it'd be good to look in to how much value boards lose by taking them off. The buyer Mechanic shared link for pays .90 a # for the transistors. I've probably git a couple hundred I already smashed the black stuff off of to get to the copper inside. Weight from them adds up quickQuote:

Here's part of the pile I had to sort lastnight lol. Took a good couple hours but got the transistors sorted from the IC chips
