Tax program

Can anyone here recommend a good and inexpensive, under $100.00, accounting program to track expenses and income. This would be used primarily for tracking monies spent on and made by scrapping and online ebay sales?

I appreciate those able to do all this on a homemade spreadsheet or pencil and paper but at the end of the day it's just not for me. Data entry is not a problem and at this point I just want to leave it to a decent accounting program.

Oh, yeah, I would like something I can use for business taxes.

Only thing that comes to mind is quicken books(though I'm not sure if they charge for it as it's been years since using it as I spreadsheet everything).

I hate to recommend it, but QuickBooks is probably the way to go.

They think it's made of gold, but it's sadly there is no other program that's as robust (At least that I'm aware of).

It's not cheap, though!

I have used QuickBooks for years, and if you need a full fledged accounting program that will track all of your business information and is easy to use, it is the best. However, if you just need to keep track of what you earn and what you spend and be able to import it into tax software at the end of the year, Quicken is cheaper. They are both written by the same company, so one is really just a mini version of the other.

We have been using WaveApps since we started and we haven't ever needed to pay for accounting software.

As far as taxes go, we buy TurboTax every year (we are an LLC and just have to worry about self-employment taxes, etc.).

Thanks to all, If I end up buying something it looks like Quick Books may have to be the paid solution; despite being twice what I wanted to spend. Before that going to play around with Scrap808s recommendation of Waveapps.

Scrap 808; Thanks for the tip on Waveapps; Before I pull the trigger going to have a deeper look at it. So far it looks like it really is free with upsells geared toward a business with payroll and employees. I imagine I will need to put up with upsell emails but I can live with it for a free product.

before you buy look into google drive free templates. They have everything you can think of. Not saying what you want is there but look first.

You can always try "open source" software. Try Googling freeware business accounting software. I've tried a few but wound up using an older version of Quicken (2003) that I got for free.

I receive an email about once a month from "Sara from WaveApps" with some updates and that's literally about it. They don't force the paid options down your throat like you'd expect. I also like that you can customize invoices and estimates etc. That offers a lot in terms of flexibility. Easily the best part though are the reports. You can download or print reports for almost everything you can think of and that comes in really handy for tax time.

awesome thank you for the information. I am just about to start my own LLC and this is the only thing really holding me back. I plan on working with the Handyman and Pickup app until I get enough word of mouth and repeat business, I figure about 4-6 months. Then I will start easing off of my current job and doing this full time. Quickbooks has dropped down to $12.50 a month which is half off and includes an app on the phone. I also plan on using Grasshopper to get a local phone number. I dont plan on getting insurance until I take it more full time. So I should be in for about $50 a month. Which mileage app are you guys using? Any other things you find useful that I am missing on the accounting side of things?
