What's the best way to remove the copper "u" s from the steel plate that you cut off the ac condenser? I find that when I cut the plate off with the sawzall I leave a chuck of radiator on it, so I can't pull the "u" through the plate. Obviously a angle grinder is to big. And tried a dremel tool almost took my finger off. And my yard won't buy the plates....so I don't know what to do with them....I can throw them in the shred, but hate to waste the copper.
Angle grinder always works fine for me. You just have to at it on a, well, angle.
It almost sounds like you are cutting at the inside between the steel plate and the coils, instead of outside where the "elbows" (they look like elbow macaroni after they are cut off) are located. I cut them off using a sawzall at the outside of the steel plate where they are located, then when all of them are cut off I pull the steel plate off of the rest of the coils. I have removed the elbows from about 50 CU/AL coils, and have yet to have a problem.
