I'm an American
Just as the title says, I'm an American. My family has been here awhile, on both my mothers and fathers side. Both families were here way before the American Revolution War. Have family that has given everything they have to be an American. We have always put family and country first in that order. Thought I would share something wrote by my great, great uncle, he was a author among many other things. This is a excerpt from a book he wrote a long time ago. The books name: A little book of Hoosier verse. My uncle died in 1938.
YOU MUST BE AN AMERICAN
I do not care from whence you came,
or if your black or white;
You may have come from Sunny France,
or England's isle so tight;
You may have come from Holland,
or far off Hindoostan;
But if you want to stay in the U.S.A.
YOU MUST BE AN AMERICAN
You may have come from Ireland,
Where the fields are always green;
You may have come from Italy,
Whose skies are so serene;
You may have been a Belgian,
Or a Scandinavian;
But if you want to stay in the U.S.A.
YOU MUST BE AN AMERICAN
You may have come from the isle's of Greece,
Or Serbia's mountain side;
You may have come from Switzerland,
Or the Russian fields so wide;
You may have come from Chinaland,
Or even from Japan;
But if you want to stay in the U.S.A.
YOU MUST BE AN AMERICAN
Thank You for letting me share that!

Ditto from a Bohemian, Cajun, and of Scottish decent. Proud of the heritage and glad they brought it to America. If my ancestors did not want to be Americans, I would be speaking Bohemian and not able to understand the forum. Did I just say, if you come to America, learn the language, customs, ideals, and not try to change us because you are a minority? Become one of us.
Thank you Bigburtchino for putting in politically correct terms such a simple idea. Since my response is not politically correct, I might make some enemies, but not from those that placed a priority on learning our language. And by the way, those that did not take the time to learn the language, will not be able to understand. Guessing this will not create enemies but if so, the defense is freedom of speech.

Patriot not from me you won't, as speaking English was one of several reasons I wanted to share this. I've been to many places, When in Mexico, I try to speak as best I can in their language. In France I at least try to make my French teacher and the people who's country I'm in, know I'm trying to communicate in their native tongue. Dang if people who are new to this country should at least try! Not a prejudice bone in my body, just proud of my heritage and all should be of theirs.
