Mutual benifit (3rd) leg
From the time man walked the earth mutual benefit was essential for survival and so it is today, especially for business. From the time the first sharp stone was traded for a stick mutual benefit was the goal. Without it nothing happens.
Today it seems profit and bottom line have largely replaced mutual benefit for the most part. Profit is of course, necessary. However their is a difference between fair profit and profiteering.
We have all noticed over recent years some profits dwindle while others flourish. It is human nature to want more but it is immoral to take more at the cost of others in my opinion. In order to continue we need MUTUAL BENEFIT and I will ad my own code word FAIR. This means not loading your cans with sand, your cars with plastic or even a dousing with the hose. On the other end there is a 1% rule you don't declare 100 lbs of extruded dirty because of one missed screw or decide weather alum is cast or zink depending on the price of the day, it is or it isn't.
For the seller you raise your profit through knowledge, proper sorting and making the yards job easier by doing a better job. Do this and talk to the owner if you don't get fair compensation go to some one who will give you that, it's your job.
For the yard owner it is fair weights, fair grading, and fair pay.
If the above rule doesn't prevail, sooner or later there will be no mutual benefit, no profit, and, no business.

I totally agree with you. I believe that if you are caught trying to rip off a yard in ANY way, you should be black listed from all yards.

Olddude, as usual, great words of wisdom and greatly appreciated.

I sometimes see the posters of people up at our yards and cannot believe the little snippets of "XYZ person has been ban from the yard for XXXX reason". If that were me I wouldn't care that I was ban from a yard (which I never will be), but I would be SO embarrassed to be associated with something as silly as scamming nickles and dimes form a SCRAPYARD! I say this because my last trip to the yard I seen a flyer and I KNOW THE GUY! Hes just an "acquaintance" which I have known from parties/college, but after seeing that poster I know he is someone who I would never allow anywhere near my home. Every time I see Mr. Paulson I am going to instantly think of how much of a schmuck he is.
One of the best tips you have left so far Olddude!
My Dad used to say "If you have more - give more. If you have less - GIVE less" Essentially saying if I ever end up poor and homeless to keep an open heart and never stop giving.

It seems to me that many people have gotten caught up into the competition of profit. As if there is only enough for one and allowing someone else to benefit would leave me without enough. The truth is, there is plenty to go around if we cooperate. This does not mean you should not work hard and look for a niche that separates you from the rest, it simply means that you do not leave the next guy out in the snow when you have plenty of heat. In the words of one "olddude", that shares his great wisdom here, cooperation brings success to all. Thanks for reminding us to play nice and share.
