hello from SoCal!
Just started getting interested in this for a little hobby. I live in the Inland Empire and I usually find or have more plastic bottles to recycle for grocery money. I haven't seen ALL that much in terms of aluminum cans, but I occasionally see a discarded TV set or appliance, but..not enough!
I do have a hard time finding anything out here to scrap or recycle. I'm guessing it's because of the lack of economic activity out here in comparison to say, LA or Vegas. If anyone has any tips or is familiar with the region in terms of finding stuff, I'd appreciate it!

Welcome from the Dakota's. I wish I could help, but into a totally different type of scrap. While you are waiting for experts to chime in, take a tour of some of the old threads. Use the advance search bar on the upper right corner of the forum and you will be amazed by the amount of information available. Good luck.

Hey welcome from another IE member. Plastic CRV is much easier to come by and I find that It adds up quicker than the aluminum cans. I think it's just people seem to know about cans but forget about all those water bottles. Don't forget about CRV HDPE it pays to seperate these from the milk HDPE (5x's the money). I get $1.13 for CRV PETE & $.62 for the CRV HDPE. Sold 262 Lbs of CRV Glass this week, at $.11 per pound, that's $28.82 it all adds up. Once again I welcome you to SMF, do please read the old threads, there is a lot of very good and valuable information here at SMF.
