Breaking down a pressure washer?

So, when on garbage patrol last night, I picked up a Karcher 1700 PSI pressure washer on wheels. All attachments are there, but its in pretty rough shape. I'll see if it works today, and if not, I plan on taking it apart to see what I find. Since these aren't readily available (but also probably have negligible value, scrap-wise) would it be worth detailing here?

I may part it out, if its not running, otherwise.

Let me know what you think, and I'll try to keep you all up to date on my little project.

I have sold broken ones and advertised as fix or repair or motor for a go cart project since most are horizontal shaft.

Maybe I'll go with that instead. After I find out if it works. hard to do for the time being, though... Have to work my "real job" ;)

Looks as though this has already been covered, a few times. Sorry I didn't notice before. Should I leave this post up, or just delete? It's a big electric one, for what its worth.

I've recently tore down a few of these. Check the pump, could be cast brass. The electric motor could be good to harvest copper if that's what you are into and a good cast AL housing. Otherwise they are time consuming to take out the bolts and misc steel but once you get em apart they pay ok, if the bolts are seized - hammer time. Or take plastic etc. off and sell with motors. Overall some brass, cast AL, elec motor, plastic.

Sounds good to me, man. I don't personally mess with tearing the motors down. I've got a pile of them collecting dust in the basement, though; my yard won't pay for them, and I need to check around the area. They said to "Throw it in with your shred." Yeah, no.

The electric motor may be oil filled. The last one I broke down was. Messy!

Well, that's certainly good to know! Cleaning that guy up in my basement would certyainly be frowned upon by the landlord!

I have an electric one too, it turns on but the water doesn't go through it

I guess I'll find out in a bit.

There's a lot of things that can go wrong with them, and I'd venture it was on the curb for a reason....we shall see!

Can anyone help me pick out a good brand of pressure washer that lasts ofcourse? Searching for 200-300USD range. Choosing is pretty hard when you read reviews that is why I came here. Thanks in advance!

I own several. Depends on what type of substrates your cleaning. On low end I like my craftsman 2300 psi for decks and cedar siding. If iam stripping old heavy ( thick) paint I pull out my john Deere 4000 psi. Pay attention to the tip size.read info on the machine.
