The Curb and the bag

The curb hunt is fairly dignified to me cause all I am doing is taking whats in plain sight .
As I have always known people purposely leave out for others as many people have a feeling
- - waste not want not. --

Now if the curb hunter wants to cause issues . Looking in people trash bags will
cause discontentment that people will call police ,
Yes !! you will be out of the curb scrap business .

So I mention the Bag only to satisfy curiosity . I have the trash job
and when days allow I can open and look before the final load to trash truck .
I have to say what people toss to the bag is PLENTY .
Wire - Tools - More Wire ,- motors - copper brass - toasters - vacs - microwaves - Did I say wire :D
people will often wrap in a separate bag & then put in main trash bag
I can tell by weight and sound what bags have the good stuff .
Any bag can deliver as even a nasty food only has wire from cells phone chargers or a extension cord . Trash is trash
and now I know what is in trash -
Plenty of $$
also Cans from food - cans from drinks
People are wasteful and thats the story.

Absolutley.
Any construction dumpster in my area is target to animal investigation if their is food in it. any bags tossed by homeowner/worker or illegally is torn to shreds in a day or two. plenty of pickings inside, although sometimes the scrap stays as it's just to nasty as you probably know. :k

i'm a big fan of opening up the trash bins on the side of the road. I found a pretty nice dell computer earlier this week doing so. it's a big help to do this late at night tho.

When I was a beginner I saw thick copper wire sticking out of a bag. I passed because I didn't want to open trash bags, and I was tired of stripping that type of wire with a knife. Later I learned an easy way to make a wirestripper with a brake flaring tool. Now I would probably take the bag and open it later.

I wish I had special Xray glasses that could see what is in boxes at the curb! I have never EVER opened a taped box or any bag at the curb. If I stop to pick something up and there is an untaped box I will do a quick glance to see if it contains something good but I've never opened a bag nor will I. I wouldn't want someone doing it at my curb.

I have seen where other scrappers have opened and made a mess of bags and boxes (you can tell) and it makes me sad to see.

The only way I look in a bag, is if someone or something has already opened the bag, or if there is ALOT of items out (like a house clean out, someone passed away and they just tossed all the deceased's items out, etc.) Sadly, I find a lot of bags torn open, and have seen teens and 20 somethings opening them up and cramming papers in a backpack or similar, always afraid they are digging for banking info or something like that... That's why I don't open bags, don't want a miffed home owner calling police on me or confronting me angrily. If anything, I will take a bag and toss it in the truck and open it later, but normally I only take bags that look like they have clean out "yard sale" type items in them and hardly any trash.

A guy I go to church with works sanitation in a local city and it's fascinating the things he finds. The guys actually found a water cooler jug, full of coins, buried under some trash bags in a trash pile one day... It was in front of a condemned house, some locals called in complaining that people were dumping trash there and they wanted it gone. They turned it in and it was never claimed, so it went to them.

Haha, clear rubbish bags so we can go window shopping......

Some times a juicy bag can get tossed into truck to look at later . If it's a clean out type trash most people don't care But house hold trash
nope . Sure as a scrapper I find old check Credit cards SS numbers. But thats why we are kinda pro's we want metal not dishonest income
when I have come across checks and stuff and if it ended up in my possession I'll burn it in the fire pit.
