Hello. I've been scrapping for years. Part time, leisurely. I've done ok. I've always wanted to step to full time.
Wife may get a transfer about 220 miles away. If I worked it hard like a full time biz, can I make a decent living? Any tips or advice?
Best advise i would give is to look around at the other scrappers in your area that are doing it full time.Some places are better than others.
If they're doing okay, you could do even better with hard work and dedication.
If they're not doing well then there probably aren't enough resources available to make a full time living at it.
i guess it may depend on what you plan on scrapping and how many other people are doing it
I make alot more than flipping hamburgers that's for sure

Wife does have benefits. She also makes enough $ (almost) to support us without any income from me. I've been the breadwinner for years, but now bc of her new salar, it seems like time to go for it.

The way to make a living at scrapping is to have regular customers.
I say its 50/50. Half word of mouth and half being in the right place to chat with the right person that is ready to set up a long term deal.
*sitting at the counter/bar at a restaurant having a burger* you start chatting with someone else at the counter and he asks what you do for a living.
"I install garage doors part time, work on a garbage truck, and odd jobs for a farmer. I also do scrap metal."
"I have an old furnace in my basement, stop by my store sometime and we can set something up" you just made yourself $20 and have a foot in the door of a grocery store, and most likely had no idea he owned a business when you started talking.
Be friendly and chat with people, but don't be obnoxious. Be the one scrapper that they trust.
