Clothes recycling .......Side line

Just a little sideline we have as well as scrap/auctions we do a bit in the clean-out service - this is a cash cow as well as free metals/resellables and a few times now a source of old clothes/textiles . We get £0,50 per kg (36 cent a lb) This soon adds up (As well as the money for removing the items-paid twice ) Last 3 weve done made £18 , £34 and £17 total £69 for nothing! This is UK prices .....Anywhere else have this bonus?

until; I get my baler and start collecting old stuff like that to sell for industrial recovery....I need to see if we have somewhere that will pay for clothing....everyone here in the US wants it donated LOL There are TONS of clothing resellers that take "donated" items and resell over seas.

No place around here that will pay for clothes. They all are donated.
Been meaning to tell you that your avatar is awesome.

I always keep a lookout for clothes, especially if they're free! But I don't bulk it, though. I specifically look for like new condition and designer tags because I know I can resell that at a profit. I've found stuff in thrift stores for less than a dollar that I was able to resell on eBay or CL for $50+!

What do they do with the used clothes, shred them up and use the fabric for some other use??

Usually textile recyclers sell to other countries. If it is deemed unsalable they either make rags or grid up for furniture stuffing. About 5% of what is donated/sold is trash due to contamination.

OK, does anyplace up there in MN buy clothes for rags or furniture stuffing ?? If so, maybe I'd have to save up, fill up the back end of the mini van, and make a trip up to "the cities" sometime. My kids have never seen the Mall of America. I probably never have to see it again but they might get a kick out of it as well as other places in Mpls/StPaul that are interesting. No scrap clothes buyer in SxFalls that I know of...

There are a few cloths re-sellers here. But the are very picky on what they take and usually give you next to nothing. Pennies on the dollar. Also there are many kids consignment sales around. If you take the time to tag the cloths and price it, you can make out pretty nicely. Good thing is they will take kids toy, books, and anything kids related. Some don't take care seat as I think there is a law against it. CL is a great tool too to find flea market vendors who may pay you a small price. But if all else fails, donate to Goodwill or another one that give out the slip for a tax right off.

I tell my wife when she is going thru clothes to donate that they will take anything even if it has a rip or stain the donation centers can sell these unusable items to make other stuff with.

Some companies like Planet Aid has clothing drop off boxes located at different areas. You can go online an fill out some paper work for donation aro use at tax time.

That's a coincidence, I dropped off two bags today at a neighboring towns transfer station today.
