Yard sale was a flop $14.75
Don't give up yet, but you may need to refine your yard sale approach. Just a bit of advice- Go to a lot of yard sales and you can find what is common and avoid that. I would rather sell a few $10 items than a whole lot of 50 cent items. At the end of every yard sale I throw away (or donate) about 25% of the stuff that remains. After a few unsuccessful attempts at selling something, I have to concede maybe that it really is trash. It comes down to a decision on how much space I am willing to allocate to inventory that does not sell. I would rather free up space and devote handling efforts to items that are in demand.
One thing that sometimes takes me by surprise is demand for raw materials by crafters, especially old lamp parts (decorative parts, not wiring and hardware). There are some people that repurpose ornate and old items with style (emphasis on ornate and style).
Also, many of my customers are re-sellers. Give them something they can make money on, and they will buy from you. I don't want the hassle of a shop (I am a terrible clock puncher) so I help those that like to do that.
I take loads of stuff to the Flea Market aka swap meet. After paying $10 for a spot I usually and up north of $40. It is a little more work loading up and hauling it there, waking up to get a good spot,(i get one by the bathrooms) laying everything out and packing up what doesn't sell. But I think the benefits are better. More people = more sales. People not parking on my lawn and blocking the street upsetting my neighbors. People don't know where I live. My mother once had a lady come back the next day because she changed her mind and wanted a refund. Plus the added benefit of people watching. You get to see humility at it's finest and lowest.
Return to tag sale for refund, that is funny. My dad once had a guy come back angrily to return a turn table stereo combo. He sent him on his way. The next day the guy tried to vandalize the house. He threw a plastic bag with liquid tar in it at house but it landed on the roof not the front door and windows.
