Stripping Solid Copper Wire with Treadmill Motors

Hey guys. Been awhile since I have posted but, I have been making some videos of different scrapping topics. I have two videos posted so far.

You guys have any good ways of obtaining copper wire to strip? I spoke with my yard today and they will sell me insulated copper wire but not at a price where I would make much profit.

I see you are from SD! Cool. As far as buying wire from the yard goes...yeah, they want you to strip it so they don't have to. Not a good deal for you.

Hi very clever, this would have to be one of the best home made ones ive seen.Have you tried to slow the speed down I see two good reasons for this 1 you would get a more consistent cut as the fast speed means less contact with the insulation 2 the speed that grabs the wire looks a bit dangerous getting slapped with it would really sting if not cut.You are definitely on the right track, Thanks for sharing your video, and I look forward to seeing more. Nice to see a quick thinking local guy!! Totally agree with you only doing heavier gauge insulated wire. Now I have to go find me an old treadmill or two ;)

Hey. I am still around. Had some surgery and busy with kiddos. Coppermine, show the video around. I feel like you have a quality product but it needs a tweak here or there. I need to find some more wire to strip. I put out an ad to buy insulated copper wire but I didn't get any response. I want to get insulated wire before other people just take it in for 75 cents per pound. Have fun!

treadmill motors make a good electric generator

Saw your video before joining the forum.nPosted a question on YouTube in comments but if you see this first can you tell me how close are the two motors where they thread together, are they directly on top of each other or have a gap? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Raquel

NinjaGal is new to the forum yes but not a guy. LOL! :-) Are you confused about my question?

The OP has not been around since June.

I would make the gap equal to the smallest copper core of the wires you plan to strip. About the size of a pencil lead, or slightly less should do.

thank you. I've made one almost identical (I think) to his and I am having an issue of getting the one motor on top to get close enough to the grooves of the bottom one without it coming up a bit. would you happen to know if the one is directly over the other one?
