Hey tonight was my first night out hit most the alleys in my town got 7 average trashbags of aluminum cans and found 2 ovens pretty much already stripped apart other then the wires and a few nuts and screws, seems to be mostly stainless steel but im not quite sure, what am i looking at here as far as payday tommorow when i take it to junkyard, if anyone could throw me some ball park numbers so i know what to expect and dont get ripped off id appreciate

what about the ovens, between the two gotta be around 150 225 pounds of metal just not sure what kind, magnets stick to it and my familys grill is stainless steel i compared them to that seems similar
I also been helping my dad out in daytime, he works for genaurdis and been taking down shopping cart tents all the metal is alluminum first load got 84 dollars said 140w? im guessing that was the weight, does that sound like the right price for that weight in aluminum,
The alluminum price seams to be exactley what i get too
I doubt its stainless but i could be wrong stainless your talking at the minimum 60 cents a pound
the oven would scrap here and thats 10 cent a lb

If a magnet sticks, you'll likely get "Light Iron" price. There are several grades of Stainless Steel - with varying degrees of magnetism. I wouldn't worry much about getting ripped off. You're first few trips should be for "educational" purposes, anyway. When you go there, ask if they have a Price Sheet you can have. Just take it home; don't try to stand there and argue with them. Do ask the other questions you might have - most will be glad to help.
You know, I never even knew that they'd have price sheets. That's probably the best quick tip I've read about anything in a long time. I've got to remember that when we take the load in tomorrow... going to take a few back and forths for four washers, a dryer, a metal porch swing bench, and an old propane (?) tank that my roomie picked up at work, but heck, we took in an old fridge on Saturday and got $21 for it, which isn't bad for a basement fridge we need to ditch anyway.
They may not take the propane tank, but ask anyway. Mine charges to take them, but they also charge for refrigerators with freon.
I'm guessing from 45 to 50 dollars 17.50 for the cans and 15 each on the ovens

Depending on the condition of that bathtub, you MAY get more for it selling it to local people wanting to restore old homes etc. It is worth a LOT more than scrap, if it is the right kind and it doesn't have to be the old "Claw foot" type either.

Darn i went to junkyard today and sold it not getting to see this till just now owell still learning, but with the bathtub and a oven and a heater stripped of brass and wire i got 21 dollars, then got 20 dollars for some alluminum i had i think he ripped me off cause ive taken alluminum before got alot more this time he didnt give me recent and said here you go twenty dollars when i came back with aluminum seperate, it was a big frame and a bunch of support pieces and it had a huge sheet of allumnum the size of frame with was maybe 6' by 5', i think maybe he charged me for dirty alluminum but i tool all the bolts out and everything other times i made sure to say number 1 alluminum its all clean this time i figured 3 days back to same yard hed know and since when i left after droppin the ferrous off i said hey im coming right back with more alluminum and he said ok i figured it be all gravy but i guess this goes to show for all i heard about junkyards trying to get over on people, its ashame this one is 5 blocks from my house in a more populated suburb of philadelphia, i heard theres one about 5 miles away from here to though in a few towns over and they pay good im thinking about trying them tommorrow, i got a full sized frigze and my pops is a hvac tech so he gonna defreon it and tag it before i pull apart everything, what am i looking at with something like this?
