Need help identifying this monster electrical cord for resale

I picked up a monster cord. It's probably 100 feet total, heavy as hell.

I can't help but think this thing should have some 'more than scrap value' so I'm hoping to sell it as an item on Craigslist rather than scrap.

Problem is I don't know what to call it, or exactly how to sell it. Does this type of cord have a certain 'name' that I could do some research on?

Pics included below. Any advice would be appreciated, I don't want to settle for scrap value if this is worth far more than that to someone who can use it.

Appears to be home-made to fulfill a need. Say you want to run power to a place away from the house to run power saws and the like. The very heavy duty wire will give you a limited loss over the long distance, and with the box you can plug in more than one tool at a time. Depending on the load you might be able to run more than one tool at once since the large gauge wire in the cord.

I used to run an air compressor 75 plus feet from businesses and needed a heavy duty drop cord otherwise the loss would prevent the compressor from working.

Check to see if there is any printing on the outside of the cord identifying the gauge which would aid in selling it. For me I think I would keep the cord on hand in case I needed it in the future. Mike

Looks to be 10 or 12 Gauge (smaller the number the bigger the wire). Test it and make sure it is wired properly and measure the length. You might want to put a new male end on and put a GFI outlet in the box.

10 gauge 100 ft cords can go for over $100 new.

It looks to be a ten or twelve gauge extension cord like what they use on a construction jobsite. Check the black outer insulation for any breaks,cracks,tears or abrasions. Cut about a foot off the male plug end and strip the copper wires. Are they bright or green/blackish ?

OSHA is pretty strict about what will and won't pass for an electrical cord on the jobsite. Seeing as the minimum fine for a violation is about seven grand it's a whole lot cheaper to toss em' after they get some wear & tear.

If the cord checks out all good it might be worth reselling as used ... otherwise it might be better to sell for scrap. 90 cents a pound isn't such a bad deal for an ohh my gosher cord is it ? :)
