Hello all, Beginner here

Hello.

I just started getting into scrapping in the last month. I have broken down 2 computers so far (an old one I had and one my boss gave to me). I have been trying to read as many threads as possible around here, and have learned a lot so far! I had no idea almost every part has some form of value. Also added an old cell phone and broken kindle to the scrap pile, and found a broken GPS in my apartments garbage.

I plan on mostly sticking to electronics because I have a car only and live in an apartment. So no garage ;( I have started saving my beer cans in a bucket, i figure I can turn these in with aluminum I get from computers/electronics.

I haven't payed for any scrap yet but have posted some things on Craigslist looking for towers for $4. Got some responses but mostly people wanting to sell stuff for more than scrap value.

I live in a college town and it is move in season soon, so I am hoping I can make some good finds!

Start getting some flyers to the college cause students love to go thru 'puters and rebuild them, and the parts need to go somewhere.
Moving out time is when students leave most of their stuff for picking.

Hey you need to get a bin going at your apartment complex and let management know you are there to help get rid of there metals and ewaste.

Hello and welcome, my nugget of advice is keep everything, almost every single thing I though I wouldn't save enough of to make it worthwhile I regretted later and wished I had just thrown it in a bucket.. (Scrappers curse, never enough buckets..) Good luck and welcome to the forum.

Couldn't you rent a storage container for space? And there are several items worth snatching besides electronics. Plenty of armchairs are aluminum. Those big propane grills are cast aluminum, take it off the base and pop it in the back. You could even fill it with smaller items when transporting. Like broken lawn chair bits..or those cans you were talking about.

Think bigger.

Agree with the others…keep your items from the computers and other items until you identify them. Will save you from throwing money in the trash! (Like I first did!)
Also search about possible dangers inside things you might scrap, not trying to make you paranoid, most things ae harmless, but a few dangers. Aside from tool mishaps!

I also have a car and limited space in our garage. Think about putting down tarp or old towels/sheets/blankets to protect your car and even the apt carpet. Don't know how picky apartments are in your area.
