Tin
Hey everyone,
I am looking for an answer to the seemingly elusive question of where to find tin components, especially in PC scrap. Before anyone cites me for being ignorant I do know that much of the solder in newer equipment is tin based, also, many items are tin plated, lots of things contain tin. I get my hand on a fair bit of shielded RF scrap and am wondering if anyone knows if the shields in this stuff are pure tin? I am trying to get a source of tin in reasonably pure state for making stannous chloride for PM recovery work without consuming valuable acids.
Thanks,
Jeff B

That question would be better answered over on the Gold Refining Forum, as that's what they do over there.
But we do have a few members that do their own and might chime in before long.

Thank you good Sir. I am a member on GFR but am careful about the questions I ask there as one usually gets the "you need to read volumes of text" chime ins and I will and do read lots but am just looking for a simple answer to a, I hope, a simple question. I looked over all the link below and no simple answer other than it is not used in it's pure form - something I suspected.

95/5 solder will work. Its 95% tin 5% antimony. A roll will cost about $8 and will last a long tome if you are making stannous. I wont go into further detail but there are numerous posts on grf on how to make it and how to store it.

Thank you Brasscatcher, that is useful and easy.
