How many of X to scrap to buy new X

So, a thought occurred to me the other day. I have quite a few electric weed eaters procured from CurbCo. I want a new 40 volt cordless to replace my trusty gas/oil that's becoming not so trusty.

I wondered, how many of those weed eaters do I have to scrap/sell to afford the one I want.

Want a nice laundry set, how many washers/dryers do I have to scrap in order to by a new set.

These are not actual questions, just thinking in terms of number of items scrapped to get new item.

I bought a set of Roper washer and dryer (made by Whirlpool) from Lowes for $600 so you need to scrap 40-50 washer and dryers.

Last set of Ropers we had lasted about 8-10 years running just about every day to keep up with a family of 5.

Intrigiung throught process there, suppose once you've done a large enough volume, you learn how many it takes to get X. But that could vary with scrap prices at any given time, plus how far down you strip each item? Personally w/scrap, I'm a cash gal!

I havent scrapped a weedeater yet, but will be soon!
For the purposes of the original post, how far are you scrapping the weedeater down? I believe there's copper, electric motor,steel and…

I've been looking at a 40 volt B&D...if you get one, let me know how it works out for you.

SO talked me into buying a 4 cycle R*obi last year, then laughed and said "because you're a woman" when I told him it was junk...until he used it. >:) Not enough sentence enhancers in the dictionary to express how much I hate the blasted thing.

i find good electric weedeaters in the trash quite often......i dont use them my self....i give them to my parents and sometimes sell them at the flea market......keep your eyes open and maybe you can find a good electric weedeater on the curb this summer

I haven't done a breakdown, but there is an electric motor, which I would break down for the copper, a bit of wire, and a bit of shred usually. Mainly plastic bodies. Maybe 2-3 bucks a piece. Maybe. I would get more reselling the working ones for 5-10 bucks at the flea market. I'm sure it would take quite a few. It was just a thought about the value of our scrapping activities.
