Help me get started selling on Amazon

I just don't understand how Amazon selling works.

Can a new merchant with 0 sales history become eligible to win either of these boxes - buy used, buy box, more buying options?


As a new seller with 0 feedback and 0 sales history, am I supposed to just rely on the 1% to 10% chance that I get a sale on each item, compared to Featured Merchants who will have 90% chance that they will get sales?

From what I have read, close to 80% to 90% of all customers make a purchase through the buy box or buy used box, or more buying choices box.

That leaves 10% chance for merchants who have listings under new and used. And if there are 5 other competitors under new and used, that leaves a beginning seller like me with 0 feedback and 0 sales history down to a selling chance of close to 1%.

And I am not even eligible for any of these options! Frustrating...

Oh well, That's my understanding so far....

I hope some of the experts will chime in. I would love to learn more about this business, but because of stupidity, I cannot help.

I'm interested too. I just bought about 15-20 books at an auction for $3, never counted or really looked. Girlfriend took a few to read, now I am either gonna sell online or trade in at the used book store for store credit, but I would much rather cash. I'll be waiting for the experts too!

I only deal with ebay , looking at the amazon site is confusing with the price ranges and new and used options . I have sold books on ebay with great results . If your shipping books send them via media mail . I believe that's the cheapest option available from the post office . Hope this helps . If you have any ebay questions feel free to pm me .

I started with Amazon a few months ago after I won an auction for a bunch of used lcd monitors and server equipment. Getting started was easy. Create a sellers account, this a separate account just for selling. The link is listed on the right side of your account window "Sell your stuff". Then look up an item you have that you want to sell. There will be a link that says "Have one to sell?" click the button and it will take you to a page where you setup your specifics like price condition and quantity available. The only think I cannot figure out is how to adjust the shipping fee. Usually it is a set price that I assume is calculated by Amazon. It will let you know what others are selling there item for, which allows you be the lowest price, a good place to be when your new! I sold nearly 45 monitors in under 2 months using Amazon. Another perk is that you can buy shipping through Amazon when you sell an item, at a very good discount, with many many options. There is a lot more to know/learn about Amazon selling but that comes with trying it out and using the system. I feel there is a good audience for the goods you sell and the fees are lower it seems (no paypal!!). There is a delay in getting paid the first time, like a probation period, so only use service if your not desperate for the money. Overall I try to sell on amazon before going over to ebay with my items.

when you click "sell your stuff" it comes up with all the information about selling on amazon. It tells you how to get started and all that jazz. theres a ton of links on that page that fully explains everything. It's pretty user friendly once you get the ball rolling.
